Default rs10xt newbie

First of all I want to say that this rc forum has some of the best advice I have ever seen and the members here look like great people to get to know!

I know I am a newbie to rc but I was real curious to purchase the rs10xt and after reading the forum from The Jackalope it looks like their is some stuff that needs to be taken care of right away. I have shopped around on redcats' website and seen metal gears for the differential and spur get sets with different number of teeth. the servos look like they need attention also. When I purchase my rs10xt I would like to take it out of the box immediately without having much breakage.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

The only problem I've had was one of the servos literally caught fire. Other than that I've had no issues with mine.

Thanks for the reply's I will make sure I look into it. I did see the different metal gear sets but wasn't for sure which was the best one to go with.

Has anyone found a jeep wrangler body that fits on the rs10xt?

any 1/10 scale lexan body will fit, you might have to shorten or lengthen teh wheel base to make it look right though........or hack the crap out of the body.

I will never understand the draw Jeep gets.........

Is their much a person has to do to get the rs10 to run on lipo battery? I wasn't for sure if the ESC needed changed out or the motors or even have a lipo cut off installed?

I appreciate all the help from everybody. Just waiting for the rig to show up so I can enjoy the world of rc crawling!

2s ready, just get an alarm so you don't over discharge the pack.

Thanks for the quick reply Doc! When I called the factory they told me that the stock ESC wasn't capable to run the 2s and that seemed a little strange to me.

Oh and the Jeep thing, yeah that's my other hobby! Rock Crawling with an 89 Wrangler!! Great Times!!

I ran an explorer, cheaper and out crawler built jeeps in stock form.

last time i knew the Lansu ESC was rated to 8.3 volts, so it can handle a 2s just fine. guys have even run them on 9.6 for a while, i did.

eventually though, they all go up in smoke for one reason or another.

Without any hard evidence I have a feeling the upper limit is also depending on the BEC used.
With a separate BEC for the servos the ESC should be able to handle a higher voltage with less heat.

i wouldn't push it, i have seen these things go smokey on 7.2 volts. and don;t use the switch to power them on and off, just pull the battery.

The stock controller shows it has a low voltage alarm? Does it work or do I need an alarm added separate.

Also can a person run a NIH till its dead and then switch to a LILO or do you have to stick with one style of battery?

You guys have no idea how much you have helped me!! Thanks so much!

Doc wolf if ur interested we have a jeep club meeting coming up if u want to show off the explorer?

Get a cheap li-po cut off, and a couple of 2s and replace the pathetic stock servos with some 15kg metal geared units. Happy crawling

Oh the Explorer was sold a long time ago. Too expensive of a hobby. That's why I got onto the RX side. Cheaper and better exercise.

Where you from?

Also you can run any chemistry of battery you want. I just wouldn't surpass 9.6 volts. And I personally would stay under 8.4.

You will surprised to find that a 7.2 lipo performs better and far longer than a 9.6 volt of the capacity.

I'm from Minneapolis, Kansas which is just north of you about an hour. Our club is from the Flint Hills area. I know what you mean buy being expensive!

The kit comes with a NIH battery but pretty sure I will be buying some 2s pretty soon.

yeah i have spent my time in the Minn area, used to go to M day every year. My uncle used to line out in Ada and a few years ago my father -in-law was living in the retirement community on the west side of town.

Defiantly do the lipo upgrade.

also we have have a club that has pretty dominated the kansas sub-forum on here. We are planning some events starting this spring, we tend to travel all over the state. a few guys even went and checked out rock city this last fall. we do a ton of get-to-gathers up at Coronado Heights here outside of Lindsborg. Check out the forum and join in, you will be now the 5th RS10 owner in the group.

I actually got into rc from a good friend of mine from Minneapolis. The funny part is he was selling all of his stuff and getting out of it. I told him what I wanted to do, and now he's kicking himself for selling out!

It's amazing the support and rc people around my local area. Hope to meet u all someday soon and happy wheeling!
