i am definitly going to use these cheapos.
will use the universals because they wont need the extra bearings.
also am getting the cups for the locker side. done deal they are on the way
bought both types so i can see if one has more steering angle than the other.
but in the end the limiting factor will be the knuckle clearance. i will take pictures
i will end up with an extra set. bought enough for 3 pairs of axles so there will be an
extra set if anyone want it after the photo shoot. it will be another week or so. grrr china mail

the only concern will be if they are strong enough since the shaft is slightly smaller diameter.
wont bother me but youse guys drive like maniacs wink, wink.
i dont mind the dogbone on the locker side, and with the proper cups there wont be slop or
excessive wear due to the slop. there are ways to have a cvd on the locker side as well, but
i am not going to bother with the expense nor the extra effort, too many projects. haha

no, I am going to use the 102015 the universals. they might turn a bit more
I will test that when they come, I ordered both sets just to see
and you need the extra bearings for the cvds (122015) or make a collar,
I am thinking that buying the bearings will be easier than making a collar haha
saw a set of four bearings in ebay for under 7.00

cant wait for the china mail..... trimmed the axle housing a little while ago

there is no lip on the cup on the stubby axle on the 122015 so it slides outwards pushing the outer bearing out.
the large diameter of the cup is 8mm long then drops down to 5mm, the bearing is only 4mm wide
on the 102015 there is a lip at 4mm that keeps it from sliding outwards
it is a bit confusing without having them in hand to see

Hey everybody im back from my work trip looks like lots of posts to catch up on, the knuckles I bought in the tread were 2 in each and I bought 2 of them so 4 total for $26 0-0. the new cheap cvds are very weak less than an hour on them and snapola. It was an easy fix since I bought 2 pairs but I really think once the slash ones I 1st did get back in stock ill go that route.

The universals look alittle better honestly because the universal part dosent look far off from a axial set up. The cheap cvds were just something to try and they were ok but to much power or any kinda bind and snapola. the metal off the axle that makes up the cvd portion is just too thin IMO. I too am thinking about the universals as a possible drop in, cause the cvds I want are still back ordered every where they are cheap or I can pay $29.99 and have them, but I think ill wait and see what else I can try. I already know the slash ones work just gotta see what else may work as well cause you know I cant just leave it bee.

Hmmm thanks. It looks like the price has gone up, they appear to be $27 a pair now. I was excited about ordering some when I thought they were only $26 for 4 lol.

Just seen some for $17.99 a pair so $35.98 for 2 pairs plus $3.99 for shipping( Golden Horizons Aluminum Steering Knuckles 2 for Axial AX10 SCX10 GH04034 | eBay ) not bad some times you gotta shop around or wait. BTW the cheap cvds are crapola broke 2 more in 15-20 mins. ordered some cheap universals to try but I really wanta do the slash full cvds there still rocking good and smooth and seem to have zero wear so far. I probably got close to 5 hrs of run time on the integy slash cvds I did and I really think there going to be worth it in the long run even though there alittle higher in price and back ordered a lot which tells me that there getting bought a lot, so they must be a pretty good product, IMO.

I will be trying the 102015 universals as well and they will be here next week along with stock front only drive shafts from the traxxas slash 4x4, yes I know there plastic but for the money I wanted to try them and see how they hold up. I guess part of modding is trying them all to see whats the best bang for your buck and having fun in the process. I'm attaching the screen shots of what I'm getting so if they work good ill let you know and you'll have pics and part # from ebay for easy ref.

Yeah got the cups so I mite as well try the universals, and yeah I seen the ones your talking about from china but when your setting the thread for new mods its nice not to keep everyone waiting plus I don't have a lot of patience any ways when I order something I want it now. Plus when your talking like 5-10 bucks its not to bad I wish the integy ones were in stock for the $18-19 I paid at 1st for them, Integy dose have them for $29.99 but I already know they are good and work so id like to try other options to see what else may work. Not knowing if something will work or not is kind of half the fun. I could have bought a Berg, Bully or Axial for what I have in mine now, but to just buy parts and they bolt right up, I've played that game its ok but this is way better IMO. I am in the process of building another crawler from scratch so I will see how it goes, its going to take awhile.

with you all the way on all those points. but with age (i will not say experience haha) i have to save on money
i too was looking at the slash drive shafts, they looked like they would fit with little moifications, you just beat me to it.
so i will be watching how you do with the traxxas shafts. i believe they had metal shafts as well.
on the 102015, i had bought 2 sets from houston at 24.00 a set, tried them and they dropped right in, saw the slop in the cups too, so since i was sgoing to order the cups anyways, i returned the expensive shafts and bought 4 sets from china.

something i did notice, even after removing the steering stop from the upper housing, the arm on the knuckle hit the
screw tab (whatever it is called) before i got to the limit of the universal. this is with the berg knuckles, with the
original rs10 knuckles there was a few more degrees of turn.
high clearance knuckles will avoid that and give us a bunch more.

so questions - did the axial knuckles use the same bearings? the same distance between the bearings? which axial knuckles?
can you borrow some xr10 knuckles to measure/test? if the axial xr10 knuckles will fit, i think that will be the better way to go.

good job on your efforts bbolden, thanks
