Steering mod

Not sure if anyone has done this. Mine is a HSP but they are basically identical. In order to get more steering angle I made a few modifications.

On the inside of the knuckle is a notch that operates as a bump stop due to the fact the steering link between the 2 sides hits the diff housing. I bent this arm and cut the notch off and now they turn a little more giving much needed steering improvements.

Improved angle.

As you can see in the above pic the arm doesn't need to be bent this much. I bent ot at each end but in hindsight I could have got away with a single bend in the middle.

Also by bending the arm it slightly shortens it which gives a bit of toe in. I never bothered to fix it but if you fit a washer between the rod and the rod end it should correct it. Just play with the washer sizes until you get it right.

You can unscrew the rod ends a little to lengthen it and get rid of the toe in

Re: Steering mod

Mine didn't require bending the tie rod.. it just touches the housing at full lock.

Problem is, I outboarded the shocks to cut down on the TR.. and after trimming the stops the tires get into the springs. Had to move them back in.
Guess I need more offset on the wheels.

Re: Steering mod

If it's touching the diff mske sure you have your steering end points adjusted or it will put strain on your servo and wear it out.

That HSP is not identical to any rs10 I know of.

More like an AX10.. similar but not the same as the Everest 10 also

Re: Steering mod

The everest10 is made by hsp. Hsp sell 2 of their own versions. The one i have and the right cr that is identical to the everest10. There is no section for the everest10 on here so they all seem to end up in this section.
But basically it's hsp's cheap copy of the ax10 scorpion.

Very nice ima dremel that off too. HSP Pangolin is the same as an Everest 10. Can you just try a longer steering arm and play with the dual rate? I know you'd need a higher torque servo.

Re: Steering mod

Longer steering arm for what? Once you cut of the bump stoos you will need to bend the steering link or it will hit the diff. Or fit offset rod ends like the scx10/ax10. Also remember to set the end points so it doesn't kill the servo.

Awesome tip. I'm a newbie to the crawler world

just the tip I was looking for. After an initial run with the E-10. the steering seems to be it's biggest issue. This looks like it'll go a long ways towards improving it.

Re: Steering mod

something to watch out for is the dogbone popping out of the cup at full turn
this is what the stop is there for.

after trimming the stop and reassembling everything turn the wheels all to one side then
rotate the wheel/tire and look to see if there is a chance of the dogbone jumping out.
this can be controlled by adjusting the endpoints so it wont turn all the way.

same problem as the rs10 has when the steering stop is trimmed.

Ran mine without ever popping out for over 12 months. Only stopped using them cause my son launched the car of the end of the slide and broke a c hub. I replaced the entire axles with scx10 simply because I had them spare.
