Standard front axle with servo post trimmed

Axial parts going in these are all OG scx10.
Spool, HD standard gears, GDS RACING c-hubs and knuckles(these are 8 degree set up) and cheap eBay CVDs. Plus the lockeduprc bearings I had leftover from my rear axle build.

Axle tore ready for parts and modification.

Side by side of gears and lockers
Stock is just plastic. Spool is sold steel and adds a little weight down low.

I started by clean up the bottom to be more rock friendly

Here is my rear axle smoothed out showing about how far you can go.

Here is where the mods start as you can see below the nubs are tall. The first mods is to shave these down till the c-hubs slides down to its resting place. Go a little bit at a time till it fits and is tight.

Now after it slides past the nubs

Comes more mods. As you can see resting place you still can't bolt up. With these c-hubs I had removed 2mm from the c-hubs. Your mileage may vary.

Also the outer bearing retainer needed removed to flush with the bearing. You can see everything fitted. (More on this step in a bit)

Next mod since I shaved down the housing and c-hubs. There is some binding in the CVDs. Again just a few mm. But enough so things don't play well.

This is stock cvd

What I did was grind down the flats to engage the spool more.

Here I took away the flange. If I run in to a bearing retention issues I could sandwich a washer or something to help with that.

Everything fits together like butter now.

Here you can see the benefit of 8 degree caster.

Now you may ask why all the trouble to do want I did. Well here is the steering I gained out of it. Plus the added weight over the stock plastic.
