Everest 10 Chassis / Frame Extensions?
 

Hey, everyone.
I'm new to rc crawling, but I've been lurking/researching for a while.

I picked up a new Redcat Racing Everest 10 for Christmas with the intention of using is as a low'ish budget scale crawler platform.

I knew before I even purchased it that I was going to want to do something with the chassis that would allow for vertical body posts.
Aside from swapping the entire chassis out for an SCX10 frame and/or simply purchasing the Gen7... I figured there had to be a modification to the current E10 frame that would allow for the more conventional vertical body posts.

... that shows some pretty sweet frame extentions that I think would meet my needs. However, I can't find them anywhere on the inter-webs.

Can anyone here identify them and/or tell me where I can get them?

I can't imagine that they're custom pieces built by this YouTuber... but... maybe?

Anyway... long story short... I want vertical body posts on my standard Everest 10 chassis and I'm looking for a ~clean way of achieving that.

To me they look like a chopped up CR01 chassis frame.

Interesting.
When I search for CR01 chassis, I find a bunch of Google images and a handful of videos.

I don't think I'm seeing those parts there.
Though, could it be from an earlier model? The coloring is definitely correct.

Side Note: Dang. The Tamiya CR01 rigs look super beefy! I don't think I'd ever seen those before.

You say you want verticle body posts in your post...but I'm assuming you mean you want verticle shocks based on the youtube link you posted (his body posts are horizontal). Is there a reason why? In any case here is a link to a product that allows for that. I haven't tried them myself so I can't give a review. Making the shocks vertical using Michael Clark's chassis linked by Smokin' Joe will take torque twist out. If it doesn't alleviate it completely, you could remove the spring spacers from all shocks except the rear left.

From the video, I actually mean the silver ~extensions he's added to the chassis. I get where you're coming from though. I wasn't as clear as I could have been.
I see that his body posts are still horizontal, but it seems like his new frame would allow the posts to be repositioned.
Regardless... that link you sent still addresses the problem I'm trying to solve for! So... awesome!

Another way of putting this is that I want to remove the horizontal body posts in order to reduce ~drag/things to get hung on when crawling through tight corners/passages while reducing the overall width of the chassis.

Also, maybe to help clarify... my end goal is very similar to the rig in the link above.

• 80's Chevy
• Scale'ish
• Probably 1.9 tires in the future
• Probably drop the overall ride height in the future
• Vertical body posts
• ~More vertical shock positioning
• Maybe ~real bumpers in the future

The easiest way to get what you want is scx10 or similar chassis rails.
To be honest after looking at the links posted they are a custom job and probably not a off the shelf bolt on thing.
You can make a crawler a scaleish rig but it will look like a monster truck vs a scaleich rig. The crawlbilty will suffer too.

Or would you suggest that I look at something more complete (with crossmembers(?))

~$20 is pretty tolerable.
Other SCX10 frames that I've found are in the ~$60 range... which is less desirable at the moment.

Thoughts on that? Or am I still missing a key piece/concept?

That is what you need. You can make crossmembers and buy at a later time.

The awesome thing about crawlers/Scalers as compared to pan chassis type vehicles is it's more versatile when building your own chassis. You can turn your Everest 10 into anything you want.

Here's a photo of my son's Everest 10.
True 1:10 scale Jeep Wrangler. Still working on the scale details. Just put on a metal front bumper, winch, and started working on chassis mounted servo.

Coming up next is a roof rack, light bar, rear bumper/tire rack, trailer hitch.

I would consider using the magnet or extremely strong velcro to mount the body. Then you have nothing sticking out.

So... if I need to start another thread that's fine... but a question that I haven't been able to find an answer to is...
"Is there a definition for what "scale" is?"
Or is "scale" simply a concept that you (the builder) understand that you're trying to build a scaled-down version of a vehicle that honors realistic EXTERIOR dimensions/profiles of 1:1 vehicles?

For instance, I've heard people refer to the Redcat Gen7 Pro as "scale'ish".
Is that just because it's not a ~perfect replication of a Jeep/Chevy/Ford/***?

Or, is there a checklist/recipe... that once you've met some certain criteria... you can officially say you have a "Scale" rig?

Seems like a silly question as I type it out... but it's been bugging me.

Here's the Everest 10 from today. We took the tiny trucks out for a few in the 18°F.
