Default Redcat Clawback

Anyone on here have a Redcat Clawback? If so what are your thoughts? I ordered one after seeing a build on Facebook but was hoping to find more info on it.

So I got it yesterday and it showed up with a cracked body. They should be replacing it so I’ll be good on that front. Will try to post more pics later today but I do have this these.

My initial observations are:

It’s huge and mind you I’m a 1/5th scale guy.
It’s absolutely underpowered both with regards to what gets to the motors and what the BEC pumps to the servos.
The shocks are way too stiff for crawling.

I am likely going to do some mods such as either a dual Traxxas xl5 esc and titan 22t (trx4 combo) or and evx2 esc and unsure what motors. Def doing springs and lighter shock oil. Might also cut up foams to get more play.

Any suggestions please send them my way.

Thanks for the info. Are you referring to the spur gear or the gears in the axle itself? What esc were you using?

Here are some more photos of it next to my Trx4

So s friend of mine also go one and broke his steering knuckle the first day out on stick power. I understand it’s been very cold out but it put a bad taste in my mouth. I stepped away from the project but I think I’m going to just continue.

Hopefully I can get some progress up.

The yeti xl axles should be a good fit for that body and do the front steering mod that the bhb dude did to the axle to make it a steering axle and get a yeti transmission and some driveshafts that would make that one hell of a rig the yeti xl parts arent that exspensive thats what im gona do with my rig that i tryed using the maxstone 5 axles on

You can if you want but i dont think its worth it i put about $200 in to my axles just to have them break the first run after the yeti xl axles are cheaper than that to build and will hold up way better

Makes sense. Hoping keeping it brushed reduces that risk. Seeing how my friend broke his first day out, it might be a risky proposition,

If you stick to the 7.2 v nimh battery and stock motors you should be fine just order spare parts now axle shafts knucles/c hubs and gears
These things are realy cool i would hate to see you bailout on the project i think there is alot of potential it almost makes me want to put my ms5 back together lol

Definitely would not stick with stock power. Likeky going to use an evx2 on 4s but I’ll set my forward throttle end point to 75% so should effectively top out around 10-11 volts. If I’ll be blowing parts as a result than I’d be better of selling it.

Any update on this truck? Considering getting one but really want some bigger tires on it. What's the diameter of the stock tires?
