No other CV axles will fit the Redcat/HSP locker, so you'll need to replace the ring gear and locker with axial sized stuff.

Oh snap. I dunno why I thought that you just needed to grind the flats further up the shafts to fit the axials into the redcat lockers.
Bummer.

Problem solved...(I hope)

Just ordered a set of OTVD axle shafts and a FI Spool for SCX10 from www.lockeduprc.com.

Now I can upgrade my son's E10 with my Gen7 Pro's metal locker and CVAs that I won't be using anymore...

Win-Win

Sounds good, give us an update on fitment and performance once you get things installed please.

So redcat part number 13849 cva driveshafts will not help with the binding issue?

Compared to the dogbones, yes they help, but their max angle is only a little bit better than what you can achieve with the dogbones.

In this video I lay out the dogbones and the CV axles to show the difference in their maximum angles, and I also demonstrate later in the video that you can get enough steering for the CV axles to start getting notchy.

That said, while upgrading to the high steer knuckles, I discovered that I seem to be able to go a lot farther now before I start getting the surging in the throttle from the CV axles compared to when they were brand new. I think now that they got a little bit of drive time that they seem to have broken in a bit. More likely it's mostly just placebo effect though, because I can't wrap my head around how a CV axle could "break in" unless it's experiencing abnormally rapid wear.

I'll let everyone know how it works. As Jim85IROC said the 13849 axles that come stock with the Gen7 Pro are a bit better than dog bones but not by a whole lot. Mine got very notchy with the high steer arms. The OTVDs are supposed to have a 50 degree steering angle; which is the best I've seen even besting the VP CVAs claimed 45 degree capabilities. Should be a fun project.

What are the part numbers for the ring gear lockers and the driveshafts to make it all work?

Here's what I ordered. I don't know as of yet that it all will work though. It seems like it should unless I missed something. Stay tuned. I will update all when I receive the parts and get to work on it; hopefully this weekend.

OTVD - SCX10/AX10 steering axle shafts

and

Locked up RC - FI Spool

Got my high steer knuckles on yesterday. These are capable of steering well beyond what the CVAs can take. The wheels turn far enough to contact the suspension links.

I have axial cvd's in my Pro, were you not able to fit them in yours?

Did they fit without modification, if not what was necessary to make them work? What specific driveshafts where used?

ring and gear shims

When I put under drive gears in my e10 rear axle I had to shim the pinion gear so it meshed right. The link I posted are other links for shims.

Did you replace the spools with Axial parts too? The end of the axle shaft on the Redcat axles is larger in diameter than on the Axial drive shafts, so if you don't replace the spool, the Axial axles will end up fitting like the old "hotdog down a hallway" proverb.

So tonight I finished measuring the steering and I came up with unexpected results. With the stock knuckles, the inner wheel turns 4 degrees less than the outer wheel, which is exactly the opposite of what you would want. On the high steer knuckles, I measured the inside wheel as turning 5 degrees less... even worse.

Not what I expected.

What?! That sucks. I sure hope the 180003S chubs address that issue.

The chubs will have no effect on steering unless they change the caster angle.

The only possible benefit in this change is that since the inner wheel is limited by hitting the shock, maybe increasing the angle of the outer wheel will provide additional steering. Some full size crawlers do this for the same reason, because the inside wheel contacts the suspension.

I was told by Chris @ Redcat that the Chubs will have a 15deg caster angle...Do you think that might help us?

I'm no steering expert, but I don't see how caster will impact steering. At speed it helps re center your steering, but at crawling speeds I can't see it mattering

Mine had a small amount of slop over the stock cvd, but I've run a couple of comps and around 20 packs on 3s with no issues.
