Default Gen7 pro shock pistons

Has anybody tried making the holes in the shock pistons bigger in order to make the stocks softer? They feel to dam firm for my liking

Have you tried changing the oil in them first?

Yup tried 20wt and 30wt in them and still feel way to stiff for me. Unless somebody knows of softer springs that fit

The springs are very stiff on the Redcats. Just changing shock oil or valving isn't going to change the super stiff springs, and will likely make it worse because those stiff springs will wind up under-damped and your truck will bounce like a cheap toy.

SCX10 springs or Traxxas springs, along with a million other options, should all fit.

Another thing you could do is stick with the stock springs, but lay the shocks down a little bit. You can make a plate out of scrap plastic that mounts to the factory shock mounts and repositions the shock mounting holes farther forward. The Gen7 portal axle kit comes with this type of plate and it softens the suspension pretty effectively.

The springs off of the Traxxas TRX4 fit, the Axial ones are too narrow. I installed the OEM ones off of the TRX4 on mine (TRX 8040 Rear & TRX 8041 Front). When I installed the portal axles the pan hard bar stiffened up the front a bit, so I went with a softer spring and installed the TRX 8043 on the front. Also I am running 20wt oil.

Pretty happy with this set up!

Couple of videos running this setup.

I've had two 1 hr crawls on some soft rs10 springs off amazon for like 9 bucks. I also changed the the weight to a 20wt oil. I did have to adjust the collars all the way to the bottom to get enough spring action. It has torque twist when you go full speed and wont track straight at 100% throttle but I like the slow really rocky crawls so I get way more flex and tire contact with these springs.
