Default Tire Foam Recommendations for Gen 8

I just got a Gen 8 when they dropped the price this last week.

Out in the garage today with the temperature almost 60F the foams are very stiff just as everyone has said.

I am looking for recommendations to replace the foams. I will keep the stock wheels and tires for now as I figure they are bead locks and the tires are fairly soft.

Have any one found a foam that works good?

My recommendation would be 4.25" Crawler Innovation Lil Novas. I run the Comp Cut mediums in the rear and Comp Cut softs up front. Because the tire carcass itself is fairly stiff, you could probably even do the Softs all around.

i say take the foams out till you get something else the tires are stiff enuff to hold the truck up also i used a 110mm tire inside the gen8 tire works as good if not better than crawler inovations foams and no flat spots the real issue with ci foams is the flat spots you can ruin your foams by just letting your rig sit so then they make a stand so your rig isent sitting on the tires so you dont get flat spots
you can get the 110mm tires for $11 for all 4 tires

Ferp- so you are saying to just put 4.25 tires inside the stock 4.75 tires?

Did you cut the bead of the 4.25 tire off or did you mount both beads on the bead lock?

Do you run foams inside the 4.25 tires?

If you don't want to spend extra money right now you could try boiling the foams per Redcat's video. The boiling process is said to remove the memory aspect from the foam and make them softer.

Or do what I did. Call proline and ask the for standard replacement foam for the BFG 1.9 Krawler tire. They are like a $1 a piece but get like $10 to ship. The work perfectly

Take the foams out, get them good and wet, and then let them dry. They will loose the "memory foam" function and no longer react in the cold as they do when new.

ya thats basicly what i am saying more of the 4.19 flavor or the 108mm 105mm would work too im using the clone dick cepek tires they run around $11

you wont need foams inside the inner tire but dosent mean you cant it just makes the inner tire stiffer

and i dont cut the bead of i just stretch the tire on only the outer tire sits in the beadlock pocket the iner tire just sits inside the bead and it will find its spot in a run or 2 you also may need to vent your tires to get the best results

I will have to dig a little deeper on banggood to find a set of 4 for $11. I have found a few sets for ~$20.

Ferp-do you have a link to the ones you are using?

I ended up boiling the foams. They are definitely softer at room temperature. Pretty surprising how much they changed.

Feed-I will keep those in my back pocket for an upgrade later, thank you for the link.

Do you have a link to the video that everyone is referring to? I looked on Redcat's site, but I didn't see it. Thanks

@hfdpop, did you try the boil method? If so, are you happy with the results?

I ordered my Gen8 a couple days ago. waiting on it to get delivered but addressing the foams is on my list of things to address.
1. take the wheels and tires apart
2. wash the tires thoroughly with purple power to get the mold release off.
3. boil the foams
4. replace the servo (I have a savox 1256tg on for it)
5. replace the servo horn with low profile one
5. install receiver capacitor (Glitch Buster)
6. Disassemble the portals and grease them
7. take the diff covers off and check/grease them

It definitely softened them, they are still pretty stiff when cold. I will eventually get some dual stages in the future.
