One of my crawling buddies just got one of these, I sent your thread link.
I usually go out on a whim. Mostly early mornings. We just need it to quit raining over here! The weather reports have been so inaccurate, it's hard to tell when the trails are going to be nice and dry. I wouldn't want to be climbing that hill when it's all slick.

Would be nice though to drive with some other people and pick their brains on what works and see their driving lines!

Thanks for the heads up! I will check out if I have any extra pins.

So I ripped off the velcro on the body mounts and was messing around with test-fitting. I think my issue is that my mounts just simply don't line up correctly. Unfortunately to correct the issue, I'd have to shift either the front or rear mounts on the body, which doesn't seem to be an option unless I use a new body.

I might have to just suck it up and stick with the velcro for now, as it leaves some leeway on not being perfectly aligned.

Maybe I can glue on spare lexan and re-drill holes for the front or rear fender in the correct spot.

From they way my body fits it appears that it is the rear that is actually wrong. I had thought about putting in a few slots instead of holes to see if I can move it enough.

When I glued my magnets on I found that not all if the magnets ended up perfectly aligned with the slots in the chassis. There's definitely a bit of an alignment issue, but it hasn't impacted anything. The indentations are shallow enough that the Shoe Goo just absorbs it.

So I bit the bullet and went ahead and added the magnets.

I used N52 20x2mm Neodymium magnets from ebay. I wanted the fenders to be as flush as possible. 8 on bottom and 8 on top.

I also used E6000 adhesive to mount the magnets.

This is how much I needed to adjust the rear fenders. About 3mm or so. I should go back later and reinforce these.

I also trimmed a little off the sides of the body so that it doesn't hit up against the side rails preventing the body from mounting flushly.

Also added a front guard made for the TRX4 from ebay to the front in order to protect the steering servo assembly that sticks out in front. The TRX4 chassis width is the same as the Gen8, so it fit perfectly.

That front guard is the same one I got for my TRX, looks like it's working perfectly for that application!

Really like the upgrades. I was going to do something similar with the wheel wells but I'm working on my clear body instead. Great work.

I spent time with the Gen8 this past weekend, and I decided to start clearing out the windows and paint the roof.

First, I cleared out the windows with Tamiya Polycarbonate body cleaner

And used my trusty Frog Tape to mask stuff off.

Painted the top with Tamiya PS-5 Black, then Tamiya PS-55 Flat Clear. I then decided to go ahead and put Plasti-Dip on top of that for the texture. If the Plasti-Dip peels off, at least I'll still have the Matte Black look underneath.

I wanted to keep the window frame from the decals, so I cut the middle blacked out part of the decals out.

I feel like it came out looking pretty decent.

Turned out really nice. How do you like the frog tape? I have been having issues with tape residue after peel off.

So far I seem to have really good results with it. No paint bleed, and I haven't had any tape residue like what you get with the tan colored masking tapes.

Looks nice.
Plasti-dip WILL peel off. LOL

Frog tape is fine, similar to blue 3M - I really can't tell the difference...I have used them side by side.
The crepe masking is not removable, so if it gets any UV light or left on for more than a day or two you may never get it off. Definitely not for finish painting of anything.

Fine line tape, narrow tapes in film, also work well on lexan for fine detailing.

Took it out for a run late last month.

It works great. I usually use it to clean up any botched paint lines that happen to bleed into a bad masking job.

Ran the Scout II at CDM last weekend. The skid bump actually was an issue for me. I was getting hung up on it constantly. I've ordered the new updated RedCat parts, and will be taking it out again soon.

Other than the the skid, what did you think? The skid hasn't been an issue for me, but everyone has their own driving style. I'm coming up on a year with mine & the only breakage I've had is a link mount that I ripped off. I much prefer the gen8 over the scx10.2.
