| Broke the axle - Gen8
I've had good luck so far and haven't broken anything before today. But today I was out bouncing around in my backyard and broke a portal right off. The plastic gave up. Luckily I had bought the upgrade HD ones at some point but never installed them. Now I guess I get to install them. The Gen8 has been so good to me I really love it. |

Original Gen8? If so, that is one of the weaknesses that model has. At least you don't have to wait for replacement parts. The Axe version has the improved axle housings. And as I understand, so does the new Gen8 V2. My wife and I have had a TON of fun with ours. |

| Re: Broke the axle - Gen8 Nope. It's been nice here in Minnesota this week, so the temp was somewhere in the 60's. Original Gen8, yes. Now I kind of wish I had waited for one of the new purple ones... But a flat skid plate, a new motor, and a few upgraded parts and it's an awesome vehicle. |

I picked up some really cheap alumunum portal housings front and rear there not factory redcat there some cheap knockoffs but there exsacly the same as the plastic housings so they work with aftermarket stuff and they cost about half of what the redcat ones cost they have been holding up pretty good so far about 6months worth of abuse and I hung some brass weights off the bottom of them too so far so good

The rears are sold individually so your gonna need 2 or at least make sure it sucks to get only 1 and have to wait 3 more weeks for another one to arrive Last edited by ferp420; 11-09-2020 at 08:03 PM. | |

I went with the plastic replacements, but now I'm thinking I should have sprung for the metal ones... In doing my teardown I found that I actually bent a couple of the screws that hold the portal housing to the axle housing.
