Portal axles I am building a gen 8 from parts on eBay (I know I’ll be spending more in the long run) I wanted a builders kit but redcat is pre assembled.Anyway, on to my question. I can get portal axles from a Gen 8 for about $90 or from a Gen 8 Axe edition for about $120. Can anyone tell me what the difference between the 2 are? What makes the Axe Portals $30 more? Re: Portal axles I’m not 100% but the Axe edition has steel gears in the transmission/transfer case. Upgraded drive shafts. Heavy duty front CV axles made from steel vs sintered gears. And finally HD axle housings. Not sure if the portals housings are any stronger. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Portal axles The Axe has different axle housings. They're much better than the originals. Much more durable. Double-shear shock mounts & just beefier all around. |

Not sure but I have known many guys who have been buying the Gen7 portal upgrade kit for their Gen8 they say they are the upgrade version at a much better price Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Portal axles Ultra cheap option for axles, if they are available are new old stock prototype axles for $40. Run them till something breaks, and upgrade to the current style gears. The heavy duty axle kit is a $15-20 part. |
