Default My Gen8 Build

Well here's my Gen 8 build, so I got the gen8 right after getting the gen7 cause I loved how the 7 turned out and my son has really taken a liking to all the detail on the scale rigs. The gen 8 out of the box is way better than the gen 7 even with the portals on the 7. The frame and suspension just seem more dialed right out of the box. I did the steering relocation kit like a club 5 but I found this gem on amazon for like 34 bucks, I like how it keeps the servo out of the line of fire and alot less bump steer, worth it IMO. Link if interested. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...title_o01_s01?

I also run 270 degree servos on these redcat crawlers for max throw with stock controller, link if interested.

I did the standard body trim and pushed the bumpers in as much as possible for max approach and departure angles. I also put some automotive body trim protector on the rear of the body edge to protect it. I also have a light kit that I'm getting ready to install, Any one break an axle we managed too today lol.

Forgot to mention I'm not a fan of the chrome wheels, I got these amazon specials for like 38 bucks link if interested

So we did a bit of crawling today and my son kept getting hung up on the body, I love the look and detail of the Gen8 body alot but it sure dose limit its capability, if only redcat made a better body. Oh wait they do in the form of the Wendigo. The Wendigo body is shorter in the rear tucked and narrower over all with nice flat skids, I ended up using the stock gen8 bumper up front and the Wendigo front bumper in the rear, the size just fit more or less.

the axle shafts on the gen 8 dont like to much steering angle you can relife cut the shaft and.get full throw out of them but best to limit the stering so it dosent ware out the cv joint i have 2 years on my second set of og shafts after i back cut the shaft they stoped breaking

im my opinion the gen8 and the windigo both need 2.2 tires the wheel wells are just to big and even the bigest 1.9s i could find dont fill them i went with 5.1 inch tires on 2.2s they fit perfict

ive never liked that club 5 servo mount the free mod is better in my opinion

ferp420,

Not to sound like a newb but on back cut the axle do you mean cut the end off where it goes into the locker so it can float instead of bind?

And yes I'm going to be trying out some 2.2 tires here soon.

I went with the club 5 knock off for a better place to mount the electronics with the wendigo body and the price on amazon, the free mod was probably just as good but this better suited my needs, wants lol.

theres a thread here .were they guy goes in to details but basicly just take alittle material off of the shaft so the cv gets its full traval and dosent bind on the pin they may have fix that issue with the new shafts but still limiting the steering so they dont bind is.always a good thing

the club 5 servo mount is heavy.compaired to what was there and the location of the servo makes the geomitry worse than the free.mod that just moves the servo forward and dosent add any extra weight infact you loose alittle

ferp420,

2.2s are just amazing on this rig, granted the hyrax them self's are one of the best out there. these were left overs from the danchee as you can see from the wheels and honestly they are just alittle to big imo, but man this thing hooks and crawls so well, minus its tippy as all get out now lol, time for some brass or weights down low any ways more to come.

So the most recent mods to the gen 8 are hub weights, front bumper tuck and the red cat light kit. cut the body and cut the light bucket to fit from the gen 8 to the the wendigo.

So I finally got around to getting some real 2.2s for the gen8 mounted on some ebay special wheels that I painted the centers gold. Also I'm trying out the old hair bun(hair donuts) foams and so far I really like them, highly recommend them for heavy rigs. Links down below really cheap alternatives

The tires are like the voodoo ottsix klr's but way less, so far I like them alot too.
