Default gen 7, how to get smoother throttle resp

hey all,
I tried searching but could not find a good answer for this.
We have a redcat gen 7, about a year old now. no upgrades yet.
I want to get a smoother throttle response out of it. what can be done to get that? change out radio and speed controller maybe? or upgrade motors?
I have seen one redcat with all traxxis electronics. wondering about that as well..
Thanks

upgrading your speed controler/esc would help alot

also changing to a smaller pinion gear will help some but makes the truck slower

idealy you do both then get a higher voltage battery to get your speed back as a bonus you get gobs more torque

the stock radio dosent help ether but its the last thing i would change unless you plan on building more trucks

Motor and ESC are the biggest factors but a cheap radio can also let it down.

A 5 slot motor is what I go for, they have the smoothest low speed startup. I prefer Holmes Hobbies motors.

Hobbywing 1080 is a popular budget ESC that performs well.

Those recommendations assume you're sticking with a brushed setup.
