Newb Crawler

I am new to this hobby and but not to RC. I have been doing the RC thing since 82. On-Road, Off-Road Buggy, Off Road Truck, Dirt Oval, Drift. Overall the idea is still the same. I have only been into crawling for about 3 weeks but here is what I have so far.

Next, new servos, batteries, servo horns. So far I replaced the shocks with new alloy dual rates, added weight (a great deal of it), replaced the main gearbox with alloy and steel gears, added a 21 turn brushed motor (I dont trust brushless), added 4WS, added new alloy diffs. Much more to come. I am a tech. I am more interested in perfecting the machine than the driving. For the moment I am scaling our wood pile.

Damn I love this chassis. So simple and so easy to modify. The fact that most crawlers cost from 300-1000 dollars is utterly retarded.

Re: Newb Crawler

my e10 lasted about 10 years before i tore it down for a rebuild not much redcat left anymore but its always been a fun rig
there are some things you might want to change though
first is the skid plate thats almost a 20 year old design the new upgraded style will have the links mounted inboard of the chassiecloser to the middle and it drops the lower links for better suspention geomitry

next is the chassie there is no way to fix the link geomitry on this chassie the skid helps alittle but there is so much left on the table its not even funny
some have moddified the chassie and got it to work better but i think its better to make or buy a new one
you dont want to add any weight to the chassie if you can help it and that battery needs to go a small 2s lipo around 1500mah-2200mah and get that battery down on to the links or on to the axle
new tires will make a big differance not that the e10 tires are bad its just there not a good match for the e10 you would need another 20lbs to make them work lol
those rims are brittle and the hex likes to break its a problem on all of redcats vehicles

this rig is a axial ax10 clone it uses a twin verticle plate chassie sometimes called a sporty or sportsmans class comp crawler
so basicly you can use any tvp chassie for upgradeing and most axial ax10 parts also fit
the axles are better swaped out rather than upgrading the design is also 20 years old personaly i went with a ar60 wraith axle up front and a ar44 scx10.2 axle

i ran my e10 mostly stock other than the home made chassie and skid plate for a loooonnnggg time before changing it up

I am having a ball with this model. Honestly I think it is fine on its own. I modify it because that is a major part of my fun being a tech. Oh and Pro-Line Hyrax tires were a bust, they were completely inadequite for the track that we constructed (the pinewood derby, wood pile track). The stock tires with every other cleat removed worked infinitely better.

Oh and I live for modification. I think I will be able to correct for the chassis inadequacies. I don't see a reason to get another kit. I am working on modifying the servos, battery and controller as I have always had to on any RC. First the servos which I am thinking of upgrading to a 35 KG unit.

Please don't get me wrong, I am not cotradicting what you are saying, just letting you know what I am thinking. I am kind of stubborn when it comes to RC. Maybe I will tell you wnat I was trying to do when I was one of the 3 founders of One Ten Drift Network. I try to find the cheapest and most effective way to do what the hobby requires. Unfortunately I am often not agreed with. :/

Re: Newb Crawler

Oh, another thing I was thinking is moving the weight of the battery to the lower side of the chassis plates. 3 cells on each side between the links. I have so much wieght on the bottom of this chassis and found the run time has decreased significantly. So I thought I would eliminate the lead of the tires and move the battery with 3 cells lower.

Been working on that for years with my Merciless Radio project along with Scathing Take'e News Corner. Been doing it for a while. If you need any tips let me know.

How are those tires for multiple surfaces? I find that the tires with fewer cleats work better over various terrain.

Asking because I think I have seen those somewhere.
