I'm back, and it's time to update this build thread. I completed the 540 swap, covered in excessive detail, here;
ZNO 540 swap, Documented;

I'm flattered. How's it working for you? I love the steering.

Well a couple things have changed since the motor swap. some because of the swap. This is a shot of my first sunset crawl on big boys.

I had to change the upper link mounts to get closer to the motors, so they wouldn't swing side to side as much during articulation, as the motor becomes the pivot point. These were made from the pieces I cut out of the bottom of the chassis. Hey, at least they're color mached

Now I had my axles both clocked inwards towards the chassis about 20 degrees, But It got reduced in this last rebuild. I have only 9 degrees in the back now for super high clearance in the back. I kept 16 degrees up front while not dragging the motor on the rocks, But I still want to get to 20* for the steering advantages.

Another $2 cutting board mod!!! New skid, glued straight to the aluminum one. BIG DIFFERENCE ON THE ROCKS!!!! I extended it forward to protect my lipo and avoid a hang-up spot. Current standover is 2 1/2 inches at front motor and lowest point of skid. Over 3 1/2 inches at the back links and skid.

Man that looks great, but I did the exact same mod to my cat with the glue and everything. It would hold up until i had a bad landing then the skid would break loose. I tried a few different glues and then finally drilled and bolted it down. check out my build to see what i mean.

You mean your mustach? I used "seal-all" contact adhesive and no issues yet. The smooth XT skid probably helps though.

I took out my "HIGH STEER" mods after reading an article on servo Leverage, Which I wanted to post here, but I can't remember where the heck I saw it. Damn alzheimers! I loved my delrin connecting rod, but was getting a bit of flex, so it's gone. Also, I broke both my stock servo horns from them beeing up so high. the new body didn't protect them in rollovers. I got 2 aluminum ones; DynamiteRC $9 each.

Then I turned my front servo around, with a longer pushrod. this was so I could mount to the BACK on the servo horn without interfering with the diff case. I moved the connecting rod to the back holes on the steering knuckles for more travel, with a slight upward bend, clearing the diff, and maximum rock clearance. I added a spacer on the rod ends to give me a slight "toe-out" or poor mans zero-ackerman

I'M BA'AACK!

my rig has been gathering dust on the workbench for the summer and most of the fall. But I just got it RTR again after removing a couple trial mods from a couple months ago.
Good to see some new names in the RS10 game

update;
A few months ago I tried some 15mm axle hub extensions
Extended EXT+15mm Wheel Hub & Wheel Axle for AX10 for R/C or RC - Team Integy
I reccomend against these. The extra tire clearance was great, but They hindered steering more then they helped. It's way harder on the servos cuz they have to push the wheel forward and backwards in addition to just pivoting. the extra leverage required seems to have killed one of my crawford's SO150. A very popular servo on these rigs. I hate to say, but I had to throw my LANSU back on the rear steer for the time being. Haven't figured what to replace it with yet. IDEAS?

Just or old time's sake,

I threw the stock H3 body on, SLAMMED it, and started clearancing it for the current build. I still prefer the look of my rally car body, but this one is kind of growing on me. Despite hacking the $hit out of it.

I figure, Mines probably more "REDCAT" than most of the capable, modded rigs out there, So here's a few pics for the harcore brand true-ists.

What do you think?

So, being that I'm still running the stock plastic wheels, after the 540's the hex hubs started slipping in the wheel hexes.

When I took my extension hubs off, I decided to try glueing the hex hubs into the wheels. It's just run-of-the-mill super glue. it fills in the extra space and helps dispurse the torque around the entire hex. you don't even need the set screw, because the nut to hold the wheel on will hold the hub onto it's drive pin.

So far nothing has made these things slip at all. They are taking a serious beating. Another cheap mod using stock parts.
