I used these:
Robinson Racing 1112 Pinion Gear Metric 12T | eBay

They are resonable in price are are holding up well.

I think that berg pinions will also work, if they make one that big.

OK just an update on the 540 swap. My son has beat the snot out of this thing with no problems to date. It has gone through a bit of a transformation though. Let me know what you think as it is now.

Sorry for the poor pic quality, I will try to get some better ones, and videos never hurt either

needs a cleaning lol.
like the integy cage.
I'm looking to do 540s very soon
are you using any wheel wideners or anything like that so u don't get rub on links or 540s or the shocks on axle, what exactly did u do to the mount to get them on the axle?

nice build, keep on rocking them rocks

That is super cool. Love the stance and the narrow tall tires. Looks like a proper Southern Buggy.

Here are some better pics of the shock mounts. I have never seen them mounted like this anywhere else, so I am claiming it as my own. LOL
If the pics don't explain how I did it well enough just let me know. Oh and he had some wideners on it, but the buggy didn't look proportioned right, too wide IMHO.

As for the vids, they will have to wait. He had been having some pretty bad glitching that I thought was due to the tamyia stye batt. connector. I put some ec3s on it and it ran about six feet and smoked the esc.

So now I am trying to decide wether to replace it or upgrade, any opinions and suggestions are welcome.

I can tell you that this thing is way fast, and very capable. I am currently relocating the battery and some more stuff on my wraith, because I was geting tired of him making me look bad.

Dammit man that is such a simple and smart reuse of the stock shock mounts I feel stupid now. I gotta give that a try. I got nothing for ya on the ESC question. Sometimes the smoke comes out of stuff. Hard as hell to put back in.

Those shock mounts are genius!! I can't believe nobody has thought of that yet!!!! As far as the ESC if you can get a stock one for a free replacement go for it. If not then def don't spend money on another one. Rc4wd outcry is much better and I think less money. Also just in case you don't know, you don't have to use a dual motor ESC. You can splice any ESC to each motor. A $10 hobbyking one will work. Just make sure it has drag brake.

I used your pics when I did the 540 swap on mine and now I'm gonna have to steal your shock mounting idea. I'm also considering the integy tube cage for my extra set of axles.

All the torque you could ask for, more than enough wheel speed!

As you can see and hear I need to do something about the shocks. The body rubs under throttle and drag brake bad.

Any recomendations on what I could do to the stock shocks other than put oil back in them? All I have is 25wt and I think it would just leak out again

We are going to put it though its paces this evening and I will try to get more pics and vids.

I will post the complete process when I get all the pics together.

Let me know what you think
I did the swap this way but I used dynamite 15t motors with 16t pinions. About 10 minutes in my esc fried. What could've caused this

you need to use higher turn motors than the 15 turns but now you can just buy an esc that is compatible with dual 15 turn motors if they are what you want to run. I think they will be way more wheel speed than you want, mine was faster than I wanted with 55 turn motors when I ran a 9.6 volt battery and 12 tooth pinions.

I did manage to make it to the rocks I got setup and from what I could actually do it didn't do too bad. It's a big difference from the stock 70t's lol but I think with the pinion I got I should be fairly satisfied. Plus I've been wanting to do the bigger motor swap but I wasn't sure how. The pictures did it enough justice that's for sure. I got an esc ordered but now it just won't get here fast enough.

Yeah, waiting for parts to arrive is no fun. I usually end up tearing into my rig and starting other mods when there is too much down time.

15 turn and 16 tooth pinions?!? that thing must have been a rocket for a min or two lol. If you keep those motors you will need a heavy duty ESC to handle it. If an ESC says its rated for a 15 turn motor the very least you can do with dual motors is two 30 turn motors. I don't know if you will find a dual motor ESC rated that low. Maybe one from a clod buster.

Oh yeah it's fast. Like break sh!t fast. But the speed controller I ordered got wet. It was running fine didn't get hot but when it got wet it all went downhill. What's a good waterproof esc that supports dual motors without bein ridiculously priced? If that even exists lol

if you want to keep the 15 turn motors then look at the traxxas evx2. They are used by clodbuster guys and they work great for that and I believe the newer versions are waterproof and might even have low voltage detection for lipo use. I don't think it has a drag brake though and that can be a pain for crawling.

i ordered these yesterday hoping they are the ones that dont need drilled out lol couldnt find 11 or 10 . now i'm wondering ... i think stock are 10 and easier to drill so i'm wondering if i should drill a 10 and use it on front or rear new motors as a sort of under or overdrive kind of affect?
thoughts?
