E10 Scale Crawler Build Updated: 3/22/2016 3:36pm The Finished Rig http://i1268.photobucket.com/albums/...pspvikybpl.jpg The Build This is the build thread for my E10 scale crawler project. I will use as many Redcat parts as possible to keep true to the brand. Redcat FTW!!!! This is what I am starting with: http://i1268.photobucket.com/albums/...psdwqgyddl.jpg I am using the following: E10 Parts: Transmission, ESC, 4 Links, Steering Linkage, Rear hubs and Axles. Upgrades: Sealed radio box, Servo w/horn, Axle Tubes (DIY), 35T motor, Metal Transmission Gears and skid plate, Iron Cross in Diffs, Aluminum C-Hubs (front and rear), Knuckles, BEC, Scaler Frame, Shocks, Body, Tires, bumpers, Winch, and LED Kit. Axles Front Axle Inside view of the front axle. 1/8 x 4" brass nipples work great for axle tubes. I used an SCX10 based Iron Cross diff, CVD's, Hubs, and Knuckles. http://i1268.photobucket.com/albums/...psrashlgvb.jpg Finished view of the front axle. Before assembly, I put a generous amount of Marine Grease on all of the innards. I used SCX10 based CVD's, Hubs and Knuckles. The knuckles are a bit longer, so I had to slightly bend the steering rod to bring the toe in a bit. This also gave me a better turning radius. http://i1268.photobucket.com/albums/...psarnruvmx.jpg Rear Axle Inside view of the rear axle. I used an SCX10 Iron Cross diff. Since I got tired of waiting for the lockouts that I was promised, 4 weeks later and only ~1 hour from the house :???: ... I decided that this was a great opportunity to keep some of the Redcat parts. I did use two of the long axles and filed them down to fit. Now they go all the way to the center of the diff for a much greater surface area. "thumbsup" http://i1268.photobucket.com/albums/...pso79gdng0.jpg Roller I have a working roller. I still need to do some tweaking and Locktight everything. http://i1268.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5b2ybseh.jpg Drive Train Drive shafts, motor, and tranny are mounted up. I was only able to replace 2 of the 3 gears with metal ones. I also bolted up a slipper clutch with a metal spur gear. http://i1268.photobucket.com/albums/...psxx72wulx.jpg Body Fitment Bumpers are mounted, body posts in place, bed insert finished, and body fitment is complete. I hope to have the body painted and completed and the electronics wrapped up over the weekend. http://i1268.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5xegn7ye.jpg http://i1268.photobucket.com/albums/...psp6oh3hhg.jpg Wiring Done All of the wiring is done. This includes the BEC, Servo, ESC, Motor, Winch, Bumper Lights, and Body Lights. This has been the hardest part of the build for me due to the open spur gear. It took some time routing all of the wires to avoid the gear. I might make a cover for it in the future. http://i1268.photobucket.com/albums/...psijanms4z.jpg Rear Lockouts I used a 1/2" copper pipe for the lockouts. I mashed them together a bit on the sides that have the notch cut out. The stock hubs have been replaced with aluminum. http://i1268.photobucket.com/albums/...pssxi1kxuz.jpg http://i1268.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2y864qb1.jpg E10 Left Overs This is most of the left over parts. I tried to use as much as could in the conversion. The End is VERY close! The only items left is the custom rear rack. http://i1268.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9h1cldd7.jpg |
Re: E10 Scale Crawler Build More parts are coming in this week. I will be posting updates soon. |
Re: E10 Scale Crawler Build What body will you be going with? |

Re: E10 Scale Crawler Build I think if your using the e10 suspension links your wheelbase will be too long for that body, it might work but will just look funky, the komodo body is on the shorter side at 11.3" not sure what the wheelbase would be with the e10 links, but I'm sure it will be longer. |
Re: E10 Scale Crawler Build isn't the e10 frame a bit longer than normal? uber is using a different frame |
Re: E10 Scale Crawler Build I did a similar build with an scx10 frame and I had to use the axial links to use a cherokee body at 12", the komodo body is shorter than that at 11.3", the same wheelbase as a Tamiya hilux, which is pretty short. I don't know offhand the wheelbase with the e10 links but I think they will be too long. Btw what chassis are you using uber? |

Re: E10 Scale Crawler Build Alright I'm not positive but just be prepared to get different links, and you could always make your own too. Can't wait to see how this turns out, had a lot of fun converting my e10. |
Re: E10 Scale Crawler Build You can cut the E10 links down to the correct length then re-drill and tap them. |
Re: E10 Scale Crawler Build Thought I would post a picture of the front mockup. I also made some prototype rear lockouts out of some scrap copper tubing I had laying around. I will probably use copper for the finished one also, just because I already have the materials. Several parts should be coming this week. I hope to post more updates for you all soon. http://i1268.photobucket.com/albums/...psvnt7jhif.jpg http://i1268.photobucket.com/albums/...pssxi1kxuz.jpg http://i1268.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2y864qb1.jpg |
Re: E10 Scale Crawler Build Nice. What size tubing is that? Sent from my Amazon Fire phone using Tapatalk |

Re: E10 Scale Crawler Build The build has been completed. I hope you all enjoyed it and found it useful. "thumbsup" http://i1268.photobucket.com/albums/...pspmkzktv5.jpg |
Re: E10 Scale Crawler Build Could the e10 shocks have been modded to work for this build, or am I missing something? Also, I what specific parts did you go with (shocks, bumpers, etc) and why? We're they things you had laying around, inexpensive alternatives, or just exactly what the doctor ordered? |
Re: E10 Scale Crawler Build Quote:
As for the parts. I just gathered the most bang for the buck parts off of eBay. Yeah Racing bumper kit, 3Racing Winch, Integy Rails, Boomerang Type 1 100mm Shocks. Pretty much what the Dr. ordered. :) |
Re: E10 Scale Crawler Build What did you use for the slipper? |
