Default Tips and tricks for time savings?

Hey guys, just wondering what kind of things your club does to make the comp day run smoothly and finish in a descent amount of time?

At our last club comp, we pulled 61 2.2 entries! So, we're looking for ideas to help save some time and run everyone through smoothly and finish before dark! We do a really good job, but I figure there's got to be some ideas we're missing!

Thanks for any input!

Jake

61 entries!!!

We don't ever have nearly that many but when we get a full house going we usualyl run the first 2 courses at the same time then the third course everyone runs together.

Maybe you guys could run 3 courses at once, assuming you run 3 courses that is...

Yea we usually try and overlap as many events. We don't have that many in 2.2 but we get quite a few entries because we also run 4 classes of scale rigs along with our USRCCA series.

We really rely on the standard procedures, Drivers being ready on time, Early Driver registration, Driver order along with who's judging and when.

Try running 4 courses.

We currently run 3 courses, all open at the same time. We've been talking about adding a 4th course, which would give the drivers more to do (keeping them busy), but would not shorten the day.

Keep the ideas coming! Looking for any gems we can apply to our events!

2X on the free crawl. That has made our comps go MUCH smoother since we went that way.

Yes, we do free crawl and keep the lines moving.

To answer the questions above ... There's two ways of running the cralwing order. Using a list, one driver after the other, running down the list. Or, first come, first served, open (or free crawl) running order.

Have the course built on time, and drivers on the course at all time.
After that its a mathmatical problem.

Number of hours/minutes of daylight divided by course time limit (add 1.5 minutes between drivers) = number of drivers you "SHOULD" be able to push through

Jake, you guys have been doing a great job. Not sure how much more you can do to make the day go faster

One thing I am curious about is how other clubs run their judges at the end of the day?

Free crawl format and timed runs is the best way to get everyone through in a timely manner. Our last comp,we had 43 drivers,if I'm not mistaken. We ran free crawl and a 7 minute time on the courses. Running super/2.2 and 1.9,we were done around 3:30-4:00 p.m.....Started around 9:45-10:00 a.m.

We could have bumped the start time to around 7:30 a.m. and shortened the time limit to 5 minutes and probably run twice the drivers through. Would be a bit early start though seeing how some drive so far. Never the less,it could be done if needed.

Thanks Brandon! Like I said, I'm just looking for anything we can apply, there's always something to learn and ways to improve!

WOW, 61 drivers. Someday I hope our club gets that big. We had 16 at our last comp and we hope to gain 5 or more this coming comp, due to it being Dec 28th, several had holliday engagments. We have the facilities for about 30-40 at the most, so I dont know what we would do for our indoor season with 61.

We thought it was unfair for the judges to make them run at the end of the day. Around here,at the end of the day courses are typically pretty wore out. Some climbs are caked with mud, rocks turned over and holes dug creating undercuts that weren't there for the first dozen drivers. The judges and guys helping with the raffle, course set up and everything else are doing all the work. Why should they be stuck with wore out courses? We try our best to have a few guys that swap out with judges letting them run in the middle of the pack. Helps the judges also charge batteries, change gearing or tune their trucks if needed before a run. Seems to work well for us so far.

That's how we do it, we have a pool of judges so that they can all run in their order and not just at the end.

We tried the free crawl, but man that made it a mess, we thought people would be lining up but instead we were constantly calling for drivers. I suppose all clubs are a bit different.

Sounds like your drivers would rather be in a sewing circle and spend their time gossiping with the girls. Some guys would rather be driving than BSing. The free crawl system works if guys WANT to drive. Having a set running order takes to much time.

To solve that problem, have a set ending time. This will usually get people in gear if they know they won't have there scores tallied if they don't finish the courses by X:XXpm. Doesn't really matter what time you chose, because you (the comp coordinator) can always change it as the day progresses.

Us at 801rcc average about 50 a comp and we run 5 courses at all our comps and it is all first come first serve. We have a thread going weeks a head of time and at that time we ask for judges and we fill those spots very fast then the judges get there well before the comp and set up courses and then we have our drivers meeting just before the start time and then we get going. We never have a problem we always run a great smooth comp. We never have to call for drivers all lines are always full and going the whole time then when drivers are done they do the free crawling then. And we allow our judges to choose when they want to run the courses. We always seem to get our 50+ drivers done before dark and even have time sometimes for everyone to get some fun crawling in And during the winter we are doing all this in 3-12" of snow 80%of the time
