OK , mabey a dumb question , but I'm unclear on it.

Example : I'm 8 gates completed in a course and I time out. Is it 40 points for the course , OR 32 points because of the progression points ?

If your club scores each gate progression as -1 point (which is per USRCCA), then you get a 32 on that course. Automatic 40 no matter what your penalties were prior to timing out, less your progressions point = your total. Start and finish gates do not earn any progression points.
