ok rules gurus..........we are arguing this on our site. .....if you lock your rear axle like a normal dig but move the front wheels in reverse to pivot or do whatever it will not result in a reverse as long as your rear wheels dont move.. granted on rocks it may not reverse, but on an approach in dirt, leaves etc. it would be easy to do this. .....alot of us are arguing that this basically means if you lock front dig that means free reverses.........dig move aside, if you intentionally lock your dig to reverse, as long as the rig travels in reverse its a penalty. my question is what would you judges call or what should be called??

I would call it a reverse penalty. Rules seem pretty clear on this. 1.2 - Back Up/ Reverse: (1 pt) point is given when a vehicle reverses course after making forward progress. Reversing is defined as at any time if the tires move the vehicle backward or spin in the reverse direction, whether intentional or not. Once a reverse penalty is given, no further reverse penalty can be given until the vehicle makes forward progress. No penalty is given if the backward movement is part of a penalized rollover. (See Reverse examples and explanations, sec. 7.1.)

It's a reverse. Any tires that go in reverse, it is a reverse.

I would also call a reverse penalty, if any of the wheels move in a reverse direction front or rear or all of the together I would call it a reverse, now if you were sliding backwards on a uphill climb with all wheels turning forward I would not call that a reverse...

Reverse!. If you follow the rules - any time the tires or a tire moves in the reverse direction (not rotate, not 1/4 turn - just moves) which would included drivetrain slop, it is a reverse. We have some guys that change the set-ups on their radios to help eliminate this but it will usually have a negative effect on their dragbrake. I try setting mine up so I have maximum trigger throw and a very gradual throttle curve. Seems to help
