Default A question on reversing

Ok, more than anything i'm just curious about how other clubs deal with this since this rule seems to kick my arse at every competition. Currently, we count a reverse when i'm moving forward, I let off and my truck rolls back a hair because of the play in my ring and pinion gears. More than anything I need to practice not doing this, but i'm curious if all clubs are counting these as reverses. The biggest thing is usually if I get one its because i'm pulsing the trigger and I rack up 4 or 5 without really going anywhere. So since "reverse progress" is kind of vague, if someone could tell me a little about how each club deals with it (or if a USRCCA guys could say what the "official" ruling on this is) i'd appreciate it. More for my own info than anything.

I can't speak for anyone else, but the only comp I went to they were very clear in the drivers meeting about the difference between "drive line slop" and "rolling or driving backwards", and what counted. Namely that unless you were found to be using large amounts of driveline slop to your advantage to "not have to reverse" it wouldn't be counted.

Some clubs are more lenient than others, but at nationals any movement of a wheel in the reverse direction is a reverse (including drive train slop). So basically try to keep on the throttle so the drive train slop doesn't become an issue.

It isn't so hard on the 2.2 to control the "Slop" but on a super it is a lot harder...

I'd agree, try and get all the slack out of your drive train. A Mamba Max with drag brake will help in the area as well.

Everyone judges differently, you got your reverse nazi's and then the guys that are a little less anal about things.

. I run a WK 2.2 and even though the axles have the famous 1/4 turn of play, Im still able to conrtol it without getting backups or rollbacks. with the brakes on the chassis should move backwards not the tires. Drive more

I am a reverse NAZI.......or so I was told at nationals

It's at the judges disretion, but we generally allow some allowance for driveline slop. I've found it's a pretty clear difference between somebody who allows the truck to roll back, and gear lash.

Something to keep in mind - you can back as far as you want. You mentioned getting multiple rev. penalties in quick succession. Instead of going back and forth, once a penalty has been called, stop, evaluate where your truck is, and if appropriate, continue to back up (you are allowed to start and stop backing multiple times on one penalty, provided you don't go forward between). You can then adjust your line to better negotiate the trouble spot.

If all 4 wheels roll backwards 1/4 turn is a reverse locally . at nationals it was any reverse rotation of the 4 wheels was a reverse. sliding backwards was fine, some guys had a ton of slop in the rigs and no drag brakes so every time they lifted from the throttle while climbing they got a reverse
