CB Whips-Cheap and simple

I was working on a build and I needed some whips. So I thought while I was making mine, I would do a write up for the rest.

Supplies used-
-Small welding rod or steel
-Tiny wire
-Solder
-Antenna tube
-Nitro fuel tube

I started off by using some small welding rod that I got from the local hardware store.

I used the smallest piece in the package.

Next I used some thin wire that i pulled from an old toy. Just to give you an idea of the size.

I then stripped the coating and pulled the wire out. Twisted it all together to keep it tidy. Then wrapped it around the rod and soldered it on. Leave yourself a little room on the bottom, you'll see why later.

This is where the fuel ling and antenna tube come into play. Cut yourself a little piece of each, not much is needed. About a 1/4" of antenna tube and 3/8"-1/2" of fuel line depending on your preference.

Place the rod inside the antenna and the antenna inside the tube and glue it all together and lay some paint and call it good.

This gives you some flex with whips for roll overs. The fuel line with slip right over M3 bolts. Heres how it looks on my truck.

Hope this helps and is useful.

Thats a pretty cool mod you did there. I will have to keep this in mind when I go to adding scale accessories to my scaler hybrid. Thanks for the great write-up and keep them comming.

Sweet...The perfect 108" whip antenna. Good job Man"thumbsup"

Thanks guys! I wouldn't say they are 108". Mine are closer to scale 3 footers. The only change that i would make with mine is to make the fuel tube longer so they stay on the bolt better.

Got mine done today. Only instead of painting it I covered it with black heat shrink. I also covered the 102 inch whip antenna on the back.

If you're making a 102, be sure to drill out an airsoft pellet and run it down near the base. Makes a nice scale tennis ball.

I just had another idea for covering the whip while reading this thread...why not dip the whip or antenna in that rubberized dip you use for tool handles and stuff, you could then also have different colors:idea: I've seen it at Ace hardware.

Good idea, I'll try to locate one...

Yes, I think Plasti-Dip would work...

here is the whip i made. It swings pretty good when bashing around 8) Made with some wire with insulation removed, then shrink wrapped to fit on some piece of tamiya hardware i had.

I used to have an antennae that I would pull into the cab to keep from getting hung up on trees and stuff on one of my old 1:1's. So I decided to add one to my JK, complete with the tennis ball.

I had a old walmart rc with a thin wire for the antenna on it so I used it as a antenna!!! There was a guy in town (during x-mas time) he had christmas lights on his antenna that were functional, they actually looked pretty cool!!!!

THOSE ARE COOL ANTENNAS! I'M GONNA HAVE TO MAKE ME ONE. WHAT'S THE
BEST WAY TO MOUNT THEM TO THE BODY? "thumbsup"

They work awesome. Excellent traction, they pulls this Jeep over quite a bit of stuff I originally thought impossible. Here is the build thread in case you were interested - http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/1-9-scale-rigs/124913-jeep-jk-unlimited.html

Something else you can use

You can use the D string from the six string guitar too if you want the antenna wag.
