Default My turn to make a Hi-Lift jack

Looks like making Hi-Lifts out of styrene is all the rage.

Hell, I've got a heap of the stuff. Let's see what I can do.

Yep, hex stock with some .040 round stuck in the middle.

Here it is with some paint. It scales out to 36 inches.

Pat, there's no way I'm doing another one. This thing took me 4 hours.

WOW! Nice work! I've been working on making one, but now you've made me scrap mine and start a new one. Did you use some pre-made I-beam for the center part or did you whip up an I-beam out of flat stock?

And how did you get the holes so nicely spaced?

when i did mine i used a piece of styrene that had lines evenly spaced. its like scale siding or something. the just drew a line down the center and marked each piece of siding. then just drilled em out. its difficult to get them straight and that close together, stu did a great job.

I made my I-beam from two pieces of T-channel, sandwiched between strips of .010x.250 styrene, so the main beam is 4 pieces. I tried to drill the holes evenly, but failed. That is by far the hardest part; damn drill bit walks on ya no matter what. Fortunately I was able to park the body on the worst part of it

The tongue is 2 more pieces of T-channel. The rest is box-section, flat, half-round, hex, and tube sections. The foot is a little small but I'll live with it.

There's about 40-45 pieces in it altogether.

Man I wish there was a way to drill them holes perfect. Hence all my failed attempts.

You definitly nailed the gizmo end of the jack.

Who can sleep when there's so much stuff that needs to be done?

I detailed out the rest of the jack and bungee'd it to the roof rack. Then I realized no bungee in the world could hold a Hi-Lift, so I made some proper brackets.

Okay, how did you attach those brackets without taking the whole thing apart and brazing them in, Mr. Wizard?

Looks kick A$$, BTW.
