found these little plastic tubs while at staples today. First thought that came to mind after i saw them...scale truck tote:ror:. Perfect for storing tow ropes, chains and small tools in The small one (.14L) in front of a 1.9 flatiron for size reference http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/w...8/DSCF0164.jpg http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/w...8/DSCF0165.jpg And the larger .7L one http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/w...8/DSCF0166.jpg http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/w...8/DSCF0168.jpg Some size pics on my scaler http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/w...8/DSCF0171.jpg http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/w...8/DSCF0175.jpg http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/w...8/DSCF0173.jpg The red one would look sweet with a large scale build |
• Used Illustrator to type/draw out sign to size. • Use yellow or orange construction paper trimmed down to fit my printer and printed directly on paper. • Used laminator to coat paper (should be waterproof up to a certain extent). • Mounted on some wood. • And finally found some use for the Bullet hole stickers that came with the Betty. **if someone has already done and posted this sorry. Re: scale tricks thread I haven't done this yet but soon will. I was going to use regular pins associated with sowing. They have the chrome domed head just like a mounted snap. simmply drill or melt small holes in the body and insert through the cover first. Then insert through body and use epoxy,ca or hot glue to hold them.If your really good you can bend them when mounted and add glue for added strength. My two cents on scale snap buttons. |
Re: scale tricks thread I went looking for scale winch cable and picked up some bead stringing wire at my local craft store. They sell it in lots of sizes by strand count, nylon coated or uncoated, and multiple colors. I went wiith 19 strand silver coated and got 30ft for $9. Since it's just meant for jewelery, they don't give a tensile rating but it looks pretty damn tough. I guess I'll find out soon enough! |
Re: scale tricks thread I've got a couple :) Here are a stack of wood logs that I made out of sticks. I just shortened them all to a rough size and then hot glued them. Been holding up great! http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...uy_56/a049.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...uy_56/a050.jpg I also made these scale "skimboards" (kinda like a surf board) for my dingo body. I made them out "Elmers" wood that you can get from any craft store, then I just cut them out to size using a scroll saw then painted them with cheap dollar store paint. Then I just put on 2 layers of clear coat, then strapped them to the dingo's roof rack by using zip ties. Works well, everything has been holding up fantastic, even the cheap paint! http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1..._7577544_n.jpg |
Re: scale tricks thread How bout seat belts? I'm figuring on red shoe laces or 3/8 cross woven ribbon. But I can figure out how to make decals for them or how to make a latch for a 5 point harness. Any ideas? Or anyone know where to buy them at without buying a whole seat kit? |

Re: scale tricks thread love this thread |
Re: scale tricks thread Here's how I made a scale ignition box and sealed battery. On the Ignition box, I started with a piece of wood that I trimmed up and shaped with my dremel. I then painted it red and scratched up some wires. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...8/DSCF1886.jpg I made a outcrop on one end and painted it black. Then I use ShooGoo to hold my wires in place. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...8/DSCF1890.jpg I painted the raised up portions silver, and moved on to the battery. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...8/DSCF1894.jpg While that paint was drying I moved on to the battery. I started with a couple of Tamiya connectors. I sanded the connectors down smooth and shaped them with my dremel. Followed up by CA glueing them together. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...8/DSCF1887.jpg Then I filled the ends up with ShooGoo and waited for it to dry. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...8/DSCF1889.jpg After the glue dried I painted it yellow. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...8/DSCF1891.jpg A short piece of electrical tape, and two decals later I had Mallory ignition box and a Champion offroad sealed battery. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...8/DSCF1896.jpg Another little trick I used was to make some grab handles for my Wraith Jeep out of yellow shoestring and some shrink wrap. Tied the string with a piece of wrap in place, followed by some Goo. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/j...8/DSCF1888.jpg |

Re: scale tricks thread Thanks, seemed simple enough. I was riding in a Jeep on our car lot and noticed them. More to come. |

Re: scale tricks thread With a little imagination you can use just about anything to make scale stuff. There were a few used Co2 cartridges laying around, so after a little head scratching this is what happened. Cut the bottom off of one, and trimmed the neck a little bit on both, then got out the scrap styrene.... http://i478.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/DSCN4772.jpg http://i478.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/DSCN4771.jpg Had enough to build a little tool cart. http://i478.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/DSCN4774.jpg http://i478.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/DSCN4773.jpg The Oxy Acetylene rig is still a WIP, but it's getting close to being done. http://i478.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/DSCN4779.jpg http://i478.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/DSCN4782.jpg I'll post more pics later. |
Re: scale tricks thread You have regulators in your scrap styrene? Can I have some of your scrap? |
Winch Line Bind http://i1098.photobucket.com/albums/...CHLINEMEME.jpg I know I'm not the first one to have this problem, and I know I'm not the first one to come up with a solution. ALL credit for the idea goes to chino63 "thumbsup". Couldn't really find a thread like this, so thought I would post one up. This is the delema http://i1098.photobucket.com/albums/...87820D6183.jpg Your winch line pulls over the edge of the spool, between it and the gearbox, and gets so bound up that the only way to get it out is to disassemble the whole winch. This can be a huge pane! I even damaged my line trying to yank it out, so now it had to be cut shorter. MadDogRC sells a 3racing winch upgrade kit that is awesome. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/scale...re-scale*.html I would have bought this if I didn't already have most of the parts. Couldn't justify the $24 for just the piece of plastic that chino63 makes. So I made my own. http://i1098.photobucket.com/albums/...879186AA2B.jpg I looked around for some packaging from anything that would come close to the thickness between the gearbox and the spool, to "fill the gap". My stock honcho lexan body came close, but I wasn't too quick to cut that up. I ended up using the bottom of a butter tub "I can't beleive its not butter." Cut it to shape, cut the hole for the gearbox shaft to go through, and put winch back together. "thumbsup" http://i1098.photobucket.com/albums/...879E54AE9F.jpg Not sure if "scale accessories" was the right place for this. A winch is kind of a scale accessory, but can also be a necessary tool, like say, a tire. Having a working winch is cool! Having a winch with the line stuck 2 feet out, not so much :lmao: |
Re: Winch Line Bind I've been meaning to do this to my winch. Thanks for the reminder "thumbsup"I'm going to add it to the to do list:shock: |

Re: Winch Line Bind It kept happening on my winch also. I made a shim out of a scrap piece of lexan I had laying around. Since then It has not bound up so bad that it could not be pulled free without disassembling the winch. This is definitely a great mod. I think the problem is also the roller fairlead is to wide allow the line to run off of the spool. |
