| Scale V-8(or whichever)sound?
I tried the search function and nothing came up so here goes. Is there a V-8(or just a gas engine sound unit out there)? I know there is one for the semis (Tamiya I think). Can this unit be modded to sound like a gas engine, or would I be stuck with desiel sound? Just something I think would be cool to add to the realism of these scale trucks. Thanks Sorry found what I was looking for on Page 2Sound unit But is there any update on these sound units? Last edited by TwistedXT; 10-14-2009 at 07:17 AM. |

the link you posted is dead. Ive seen model boats with sounds that they have personaly recorded and played back when triggered off a channel.

In the 1:16th scale tank world there are several soundcard units that slave to the throttle channel and simulate engine noise that ramps up as the speed increases. Most of them require you to "start" the engine before the ESC will send power to the motors. Different type engine sounds for different tanks are downloaded in .wav files on the soundcard so the exact engine sound for the tank you're installing in can be selected. I've seen guys add TX-selectable sounds like verbal commands from the commander to move or fire or military music. What you'd have to do is locate .wav files of the V8 engine sounds you need, which mght be a quite a search... |

Thats close. But it also notes that it compatible with the 540 series motors, so would(bear with me I'm new to the brushless motors)it work with those(brushless)? All the functions, including the exhaust shaking would be a great finishing touch on a scaler.

Yep. It's 350 bucks and fills the cab. The V8 sound is nice and rumbley, but the unit weighs a ton and sits on top of the frame. Cool for a shelf queen but it's not much fun to drive.

Don't know if these are the same as the tamiya units but they are about the baddest I've heard; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONp3E...eature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ALe4KJNFz4&NR=1 The guy says they're from "RC Model Workshop," but I could never dig anything up on them. |

i know rc4wd is playing around with one rightnow. they are gonna try to keep it around 100 bones. sounds like you will be able to select the engine noise you want.

It looks like the same deal as the tanks - as in, folks still have some work to do to make them acceptable for use IMO. None of the engine sounds seem to match what the truck is doing, which makes it pretty useless. When the truck starts to roll forward and the engine pitch does'nt change until 3-4 seconds later, or the truck reverses and the engine noise remains at idle, that sort of blows it. I'd rather have no noise at all than noises that in no way match what's actually going on. Smoke generators look ok on a deisel tank, but on a truck it just looks like a blown head gasket... |

This is the only engine sound generator that I've heard that actually sounds like an engine (vs. sounding like an electronic simulation of an engine) and exactly matches what the electric motor driving the car is doing (because the electric motor also drives it) This was posted here a couple weeks ago. You'll see that this system is nothing like anything else out there though, and there's unfortunately no way anyone is putting anything like this in a scale truck build: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iv0Lr...eature=channel Drift car with the same system: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4rze...eature=channel Even this system has it's flaw - theres no idle noise when the car is just sitting, because the motor drives the turbine system... | Is that not some cool sh!t or what? Here's the translated website link: http://translate.google.com/translat...A_enUS311US311 Translating from Japanese is hit or miss though, you know what to expect. Some of it doesn't make sense sometimes. It's not much of a site but you can check out what they've done at least. Looks like they've done this for a Yokomo and a TT-01. 45,000 yen though. Ouch! $503.38 is a steep entry fee. But if they made one to fit a TA03F, I'd be all over it though... |

So ive been digging all day and have 2 ideas in mind... (watch for a build thread in the near future) Ive got a couple of bids on 2 trx traxxas motors with the easy start installed - Y cable off of the esc to run a servo which will operate an oldschool rotary speed control wich will run both of the trx motors in variation with the esc... running 2 will give it that multiple cylinder sound.. going to be exhausting it into the stock 5b exhaust. should give it a nice throaty sound. Idea B is to go pick up one of those 12v electric protable tire inflators Possible bigger piston for deeper sounds) - rip it apart and figure out a way to flow it through the 5b muffler... also running it off of the esc.... Thoughts? |

I've thought about contacting these guys to see if they can do a sound board for rc trucks but just never have gotten around to it. I use their sound boards and electronics for my Bobba Fett and Stormtrooper costumes. They do about anything you can come up with. It's just a matter of enough demand in order to get the pricing down or single custom work would cost a pretty penny. They are great at what they do just need to be contacted with our ideas. If we had enough people they probably could come up with just what we need at a somewhat decent price. I plan on contacting them over the weekend regarding some settings on my Stormtrooper (Sandtrooper now) voice board, I'll ask and see what kind of responce I get. I'll post up what I hear. The other drawback with the electonic sound board direction other than price is a speaker that could produce the sound we need, both with it's size and waterproofing for those rigs that need it. Most of my rigs barely have enough room to hide the electronics used let alone a huge pipe system or speaker. Another thought on the air powered idea. Wonder if there is a way to vent some of the airflow away from the exhaust port through a scale tailpipe. Would be nice to see a rig running through water with a killer engine sound and air bubbling up from the tailpipe, lol. Too much rc daydreaming, lol, but hey, you never know, look where we are now compared to 5 years ago and also with the ideas people come up with and actually build on here, gives me high hopes, lol. Hopefully by this time next year this will be another one of those posts revisited with "Glad they thought of that and built it", lol. We can only hope. Keep this thread alive people. http://www.hyperdynelabs.com Last edited by beachbum; 10-22-2009 at 03:35 PM. Reason: kant spel wuth a dam |
