| 3r racing winch problems
I was hooking up my winch last night and i didnt want to have a huge battery pack so i cut the wires going to the tamia plugs and soldered on a 4 aa reciever pack. I have a two way switch on my remote so the winch is either going in or out. so i had the idea of having a servo that would hit the button i had it almost done and was testing it out when all of a sudden my circuit board for the winch started on FIRE! I cut the wires and it went out. OK what happened and why did it do this. Did the reciever pack did this? And what can i do other than having a servo pushing the button? How can i run the winch other than a huge battery pack? |

i took one of those batteries from those knock off tyco rc cars or what ever their called, those batteries that take four to five hours to completely charge, and hooked it up. seems to be holding up pretty well. and the battery is pretty small.

I just cut the Tamiya plug off and put on a receiver plug...drawing power directly from the receiver. With a BEC putting out 6V, everything is OK. I also have one wired directly into the BEC with it cranked up to 7.4V. BEC is only running the winch.

| That's what I did but mine is set at 8.6V (I run a Hyperion G3 VX 35C 3S 2200mah lipo with a 35T motor). Nice fast winch and don't fry boards with fully charged 3S lipos now |

I'm now running a cheap Ebay speedy to power the winch on 11.1V, seems to be working fine - lots faster and more torque than with the factory controller.

Don't think epa has anything to do with it. You are lacking a neutral point that is the problem. I don't know the 3pm-x but you need a 3 position switch. It seems to me you are running it on 2 position only that would make it run eather way but never stop.

I tried running mine on 11.1v and after a couple of uses it roasted the motor and then the controller. Now I run it off my cc bec @ 6v. It's a bit slow but it pulls good. I'm planning on running a second one to winch the rear axle. Hope this helps.

| The new Futaba 3PM-MX that just came out or the earlier 3PM? If it is the 3PM MX, try here Futaba 3PM-MX Crawling Radio - Info and setups If it is the earlier 3PM I am not sure how to do it.
