n00b done built everything

Greetings scale enthusiasts. I recently started building a 1/9 scale pole barn to stage photos and display some of my better vehicles.

I'll get you up to speed. I started with some foam core board and some balsa wood. Then I made some sheet metal siding from aluminum foil. So far it's super light weight. Hopefully it will be easy to transport...if it fits through the door:mrgreen:

Sweet, kinda looks like a project I built in wood shop class in High School. I wish I had the space here to do something like that, I almost like doing that more than driving the trucks.

fvrr 01-07-2011 07:50 PM

That's nice, I wish I had some room for that. Did that with some of my 1/24th stuff and didn't have room for those either

"thumbsup"awesome can't wait to see more. maybe when yours is done i'll try and make one.

Creepy Inc. 01-07-2011 11:46 PM

Looks good so far. Will you give it a roll up door?

I agree, building things is usually more fun for me.

It's quite big, but I'll be able to hide it somewhere.

Thanks. No door planned, it's on the unfinished/open side of the barn.

Sick! Perfect backdrop for a scaler build.

fanke19 01-08-2011 02:58 PM

This is great! And I agree with you guys...lately I've been getting a ton of satisfaction from the building of the props. I can't wait to see this thing with a floor and decor inside. Will you go with a concrete slab or with gravel?

I've always been into building structures for model railroads, this is just larger so it's kind of discouraging for me. On small scale stuff you can add a few details and it looks complete, but on this scale you have to go insane with details to make it remotely real. We'll see how much I like building by the time I'm done with this.

I felt that the walls were somewhat lacking so I added more girts

Got the 'crete poured. Also added some trench drains.

Funny you mention model railroading...my dad (the one who owns this dually) is into large scale railroading...1/8 scale actually. I don't have a pic handy of the crawler alongside the train...but...

Rich, its paul, the photographer.... Dude, you need to light this, right? What is your flash/modeling source going to be? I have an older nikon sb28 (strobe) i would be willing to donate if yu want? For a steady light source. You could scrim it with some translucent thin plastic to get an even light source in there. Then, you could do scale lights for ambient lighting...

Let me know if you wnt the strobe. Its a pretty expensive unit but as i said, its older. I have newer ones i use. Lt me know, ill ship it with the boyer/noob tundra honcho.....or the Grudge as i call her.

Btw- i am no longer complimenting your builds. I am too jealous now. Although, i dont pretend to compete... You are a genius dude.

Ciao,paul

I have a few more things in mind that may be entertaining for this project

I painted the potty. Needs some more details like a sign, vent stack and stuff. I should probably finish building the actual barn before making anymore stupid details
