Default Mini Vulcan Cannon 2.0

So Kuatto has been hounding me pretty hard about the 20mm Vulcan I made earlier this year. I was geared up to send it to him but it had gone MIA. Couldn't find it anywhere.

I felt bad and decided to make a new one and donate it to his 8x8 build. Can't have a military vehicle without a big ass gun on it, right?

The barrels are the easy part. Brass plate drilled to accept 3/32 steel rod, all silver soldered together. This one is more compact and truer to scale than the first. Roughly 2" long (after the excess is cut off) and a hair under 3/8" wide.

Of course you can't have a Vulcan unless it spins, so I reached into my bag of blown servos and pulled out an old TP for motorization/turret casing. I'm thinking a bastardized internal gear system/rubber band drive should do the trick. The center shaft will go all the way through the servo and ride on bearings. Preliminary testing has shown it to spin freely.

If there is an electronics guru reading this, I'd like to find a way to turn it on/off using the radio.

Barrel and center shaft mounted in the servo case.

A quick test...

Thats the drill thats spinning it, not sure yet how fast the servo motor will spool it up.

Not too much left to do. Gotta find some tiny rubber bands for drive belts and find a way to turn it on and off through the receiver.

It'd also be cool if I could get it to make a "braaaaaaap" noise.

just use a 3racing winch controller to hook to the receiver to turn on and off.

to make a "braaaap" noise put a piece of thin plastic into the barrels, much like kids used to do with baseball cards in their bike spokes.

looks awesome.

That's freaking killer, how about a high speed servo, would that spin it fast enough? Great job.

looks great!

how about a small micro heli motor for powering it,or small airplane motor..?

unless you needed to use the servo housing...

It needs something to keep it stable when it spools up, otherwise I could hook it right to a motor and make it go.

I wonder if there is room to make a flapper on the inside of the servo box. Or tear into some toy gun that makes sound and tie it into the on and off switch.
Look in the birthday cards, maybe there's a gun noise in one of them.

Or the operator could make mouth noises.

I think it's really cool. I wish I had a real one on my top of my work truck.

The barrels won't actually go into the case, though I could make something stick out.

I think my next one will actually fire bullets. That should give me a chance against Szczerba and his new sportsman rig.
