Default 1:10 Scale Jungle Hut

So, I've been thinking and sketching some ideas. The next building in my RC ORV park will be a jungle hut. It will either evolve into an ocean/surf theme or a jungle scientific exploration theme or maybe a cross between the two.

either way, this is the next building in my scale crawling park.

This is an actual picture of a 1/32 scale model I found via Google. I'm thinking along these lines for the structure style & roof lines. It will have a wrap around deck though & a second story copula little look out tower thing on top. Bamboo walls maybe & thatched roof. We'll see.

For some reason, I've never been much on figures. Not sure why... Although, a Wraith is on my wish list & that would have to have a driver IMO. But I like hot asia chick figures like Yuffie.

At any rate, I have design the deck portion in CAD & used your suggestion from the shelter to angle the decking. The deck (as of right now) is octogonal. with railing all around the edges. I've ordered some coconut fibre for thatching the roofs. looking at bamboo. I sort of envision a structure similar to the pic I posted in the center of the deck with a lookout tower in the middle. I'm still in the idea phase. I want to be able to see the inside well so I can make little things for inside.

Need to finish up my Gelande/Defender to go with this one.

Don't mean to laugh..but... LOL

I find it glaringly obvious that your last build was tied up and STILL is tied up waiting on roofing.....

The FIRST thing you ordered for this one..... ROOFING!!!!

You have a leaking roof on your 1:1 home too don't you?
Just kidding...

I bought a microlux table saw which opens up some options. But I'm thinking the deck will be planked & bamboo from the deck up.

God I hope not. I've gone pretty far over my hobby budget with this building obsession & if anything breaks on my real truck or house, I'm screwed.

Will you use Balsa? Or what type of wood for something like this?

I used Basswood on the Adirondack shelter. It's harder than balsa & not as hard as maple/cherry. I like the basswood strips. You can buy them at just about any hobby/art/craft store including Michael's and they come in a lot of miniature sizes. They aren't real expensive on a small project but they can add up.

I just purchased a microlux table saw & a real nice rip fence so I hope to just buy regular size wood at Lowes & rip my miniature planks & save some money (see how I justified buying a new tool?).

I'm going to experiment with poplar. It has a real smooth grain & isn't too expensive. Also want to incorporate some bamboo, not sure how that will work. I've never worked with bamboo but... it fits the theme.

On another note, I got some coconut fiber which should look good for roof thatching. It is sort of ironic that the tin roofing is the only thing keeping me from finishing the shelter & it's the first thing I have in hand for this one.

Back from the holidays. Have 22 lbs. of bamboo in my office.

I got it from Bamboo Poles

He worked with me on the shipping, cut the pieces down for me to reduce costs. Bamboo is sort of inconsistant by nature but I'm happy with the quality of this batch. Need to clear a few other projects off the work bench so I can get started on this.

Well, spring hit & this one went on the backburner but now that fall is in the air, I got it back out.

Theme is going to be Jungle Scientific reasearch center and trading outpost. I'll have to save my Hilux surfboard for another build.

Many more I'm afraid...

In a gross and unapologetic abuse of scale, I'm oufitting a team of GI Joes to hunt down my tiger. 1:6 vs. 1:10, it should be a slaughter.
