That would be cool on a spring or something so it always returns and you can just winch it across and when you drive off it would return? idk just the first thing that popped in my head lol.

Nice! I guess I need to make a lake in my park first...

Reminded me of a mega road trip I did a long time ago. I was young & dumb & figured I would drive to South America, I didn't really have a plan. I made it as far as Panama.

The big issue isn't really the canal, it's the darien gap, a nortiously dagerous & roadless (at least at the time I went) area. I googled it & found this cool vintage photo (I was in an '80 toyota celica, again lack of planning):

I always wanted to do South America. My kids and I were planning a trip to Ecuador that never panned out. Closest I have come was some Drug Enforcement duties around Colombia and the assault on Panama to remove Noriega.

I did get to do some extensive traveling in eastern Africa. Kenya, Djibouti, Egypt and the Sudan. But very different terrain. Most of our travel was by VW Micro Busses. Hot, dry and dusty. Though down in Kenya, during the rainy season, it was mud heaven.

That car ferry reminded me of a number of them that we used. Though our vehicles were usually surrounded by Goats and other live stock.
