| Homebrew scale cargo net
I made this cargo net. It consists of elastic cord and some necklace loops. It takes a while to do this and make the squares work out to the same size, but the outcome is worth it. The method is about the same as my bungee cords, but harder. I start out with a base measurement of the relaxed length, and then subtract a inch. You want it tight, but not so tight you can't store your cargo undernieth it. I made my lengths and started tieing knots. You want to make sure that the ends cords are long enough to use as the hook mounts. Dont worry about the lengths of the ends, as they can be cut and shortened after you're done. Remember these 2 rules, measure twice, cut once, and also remember it's easy to make the cords shorter, not so easy to make them longer. You will need the elastic cord, a knife, needle nose pliers, a lighter, super glue (good stuff too, not the cheep crap that turns white) and the necklace ends. Once you have you're cords all tied up, put a drop of glue on each knot to make sure the cords don't slip and release your cargo. Use the lighter to seal up the ends of the cords so they don't fray. The end result is a cargo net that looks 100% scale and is fully functional. This net is stout and again, the ends will puncture your skin or bend, before they come loose. So what do you think? Pretty nice huh? Last edited by THX_138; 04-25-2012 at 10:01 AM. |

Square knot? Very interested in the process. I suck at knots. -B |

Thanks. This net is being used in the bed of a F350, and held up to some tough crawling. Works great.

I make most all of my own scaler stuff, but that job would put me in the looney bin... Nice work! Only way I could figure to do it is make a small checker board with pegs on the outside edges to keep the lines in place while I tied off the knots....??? Or maybe a big bag of mini aligator clips to put on the edges to hold the lines? Got me thinking now.... Last edited by cogfounder; 05-02-2012 at 05:01 PM. |

Love the net, and I definitely have plenty of time to invest in a couple but how in the hell do you route the cord as in what pattern that's what was missing for me I got the gist of it but how about a step by step of tying it all together?

You just tie the knots as you go and keep everything adjusted to the proper distance as you go across the net. You might even stop after getting about halfway through and place a drop of CA on each knot just to keep things from moving. | |
