| 1/10 Utility Trailer and Slide-In Camper
Alright, I just about have my trailer finished. So, I thought I would post up the build. It's pic heavy as I wanted to show as much detail as I could. I couldn't find much online while I was researching for ideas. Some of what I did find was very helpful. I figured I would pass on my take a trailer and maybe give others ideas for their build. Wow. That is by far the coolest RC trailer I have ever seen, scaleness at its finest! Nice work!!! Is that Plastruct checkerplate and if so what did you use for paint? Looks very realistic, like real polished Aluminum checkerplate

Thank you. It's actually Hot Racing 1/10 scale aluminum diamond plate. I got it from RPP: Hot Racing 1/10 scale aluminum Diamond Plate 9 x 11 It's very easy to work with and you get two sheets of it.

That's quite a shock setup there, how well does it work? It looks great but I think the trailer needs some dents and rust! Haha

I would love to to have the trailer dented and rusted out. But that kind of detail is not in my bag of tricks. I really don't like to paint. I am not patient enough. The shocks actually work very well in this configuration. It took some playing around to find the sweet spot, but once I found it I stopped mucking with it. Next in the work for the trailer is a slide in camper. Still prototyping it. |

Great looking trailer, why did you bend the drawbar down and use a drop hitch, when you could of got much better ground clearance by keeping it straight.

Good question. I actually didn't bend the frame down. It's a flipped over Honcho chassis. This is the configuration I came up with using extra items I had laying around to get the geometry of the leaf springs to work properly, maintain good ground clearance, and have the trailer bed and frame stay horizontal. Also, I had been looking at this project sit on my work bench for many months wondering what I was going to do with it. I finally got a wild hair up my arse and built the chassis over the course of last weekend. I just wanted to be done with it so I could get this project checked off the list. |

very cool trailer! and in my opinion to the bent downward "tounge", that just makes it that much more scale lookin! looks like you actually just took the cab off a pickup and cut the frame and drawed the rails together to create the toung of it. awesome job! |

Thanks guys. I like the way it turned out. And before I even finished it I've started building a slide in camper for it. I'm not sure what I'm going to side it with yet. Stryene vs. wood? I have a pretty good start on the framing. Here's what I have so far. |

Redneck RV! Haha cool. I would go with styrene, it's very easy to work with, you would have sides on it in no time!

Thank you Lambo-27. I actually started a new one over the weekend. I bought new wood from the LHS and began this one with a better game plan. I'm liking the way this one is shaping up a lot better. |
