Default Wolf Creek/Speedweigand Garage/Service Station

Ok, I have to get in on the garage thing. Actually, I've been playing with this idea for a couple years but this iteration has evolved over the last 3 months. Working with speed has enabled me to go some places with the CAD model that I wouldn't want to have tackled without CNC.

Since I use my buildings outside the my ORV Scale Park, I'm going to focus on the exterior for now. I wanted to create a service station with garage bays. It's a little more ornate than your typical garage but... what can I say, I like it that way. This should be an ongoing project for a while so hopefully, someday, I can detail out the inside.

I'm doing this with Speedweigand. I built one of his slide in campers, thought the CNC technology was really cool & would work well for a building. I contacted him & we played around with a picnic table I designed at 10 scale in AutoCAD & worked out pretty smooth.

Speedweigand/Wolf Creek Picnic table.

So, on to bigger things. I've been working on this CAD model for a while now but I think it's about ready to send over to him & then he will CNC the building as a kit for me.

It's roughly 9 scale & has a footprint of about 4' x 5' & as of right now, takes up two 4x8 sheets of plywood when all the pieces are flattened out.

Here are some renderings of the CAD model:

When are you going to start the build? Looks great.

Thanks for checking it out guys!

It's modular so I want to start on the right bay first.

The challenge is meshing my CAD skills with Speeds CNC stuff. It's real easy to get real elaborate in the CAD model without considering the reprocusions as far as time spent on Speeds end cutting it.

Also, if it were just cut square pieces of wood, I could do it on my table saw but etching windows & routing flanges to make them sit real clean in the frames is what will make it worth going CNC. So...

The garage door is a real challenge. After seeing MP3ranger's, a functional garage door would be really cool. Once the design is worked out, producing multiple copies is feasable.

I'm hoping we can get the details worked out for the windows & garage door in the next week & once he has the CAD model, balls in his court. He's crankin' out slide in camper kits & a number of other projects and mine is not his most profitable... but as soon as I can get a prototype back from him.... it's balls to the wall. I'm chompin' at the bit to get it but want to have as many mistakes worked out in the CAD model as I can.

Yea, it's planned a little more than I typically like to but with the CNC, I can't make it up as I go.

The idea was based on this art deco gulf station in Bedford, PA. I was looking for service stations that were naturally tall and compact. Most scale trucks are built with an exagerated lift so I wanted it to be tall enough to accomadate them but look somewhat real.

Love it!! I have some scale barns for my back yard course already. Some picnic table and a garage would rock!

Is he going to make the old school pumps too? Or 80's style square ones would be easier and still be really cool.

Cool, Speed has picnic table kits now. Not sure what he wants to do with the garage. Right now, it's just a project he's helping me out with.

A lot of my stuff is sort of an early 60's theme. This is a 1958 Wayne Blend O Matic pump that I've been narrowing in on. I'll probably draw it out & either make it from scratch/styrene or he may want to do it. Haven't gotten that far yet.

Yep! That's exactly what I meant. My little back Woods town still had those in the 80's. :-) I remember the first digital one in like 1995when the new gas station went in. So that's why I was confused. :-)

Haha. Just had a thought. Put a barrel jack on the end of the pump handle and make it charge truck batteries. Haha.

I like it!

Started on the garage door panels. made a jig for the frames:

Used basswood strips & white spray paint:

Then I plan to laminate a clear window piece between two frames, fill & sand the edges.

Me too. Life got in the way for a while but I've gotten back on it. window laminates came out nice. I keep tweaking my CAD model but need to call it good & break ground already.
