| Going to attempt my first trailer but have questions.
Can anyone post and try to explain a little better how to mount the wheels to the trailer? I've heard brake line and a threaded rod, but I don't see how that would work on it's own. Are people using bearings? I'm hoping someone could show some pictures. I'll be using aluminum L shaped rods and maybe some U shaped to clean the edges, haven't quite decided yet. I'm hoping to make it very sturdy, to carry 20+ lbs or so. Please help! |

I'm in the same boat with you here, I have been playing with a few ideas for axles with a section of 8-32 rod. The O.D. doesn't fit in the I.D. of most bearings so it has to be a special size, I would go with bearings over a rod riding inside a tube design though. I have a few ideas about using rear hubs from 1/10th scale SCTs, you could use how ever many you needed and they will house bearings and have the proper 12mm hex and mount built in. Its just tying the hubs to the frame or suspension of the trailer that has me stuck, I can't prototype so I am left with drawings so far. I know these hubs can hold weight, if you use 4 hub (2 on each side) the weight capacity should far exceed the trailers max weight. |

Yeah I'd for sure like it to be independent, preferably not riding on the same rod. I'm hoping someone can chime in with what they successfully completed. I'm thinking I just start on the frame itself and work something out. Maybe once it's sitting in front of me I'll be able to better figure it out. I thought about hubs also but mounting them got me stuck also! |

hi, I recently built my first trailer and I was toying with the same idea of using brake line but I decided to go down a different path (the easier path) by using a Tamiya tractor trailer straight axle. here is the thread (beat up utility trailer!) look at the 2nd and 3rd pics. the axle I used is plastic with plastic bushes but you can but alloy housing and roller bearings. and even being a plastic axle I can put a cinder block on top of the trailer and tow it around no worries so it can handle a bit of weight. not sure if this is much help to you but I just thought id share by experience |

That's very scale looking! Good job on that. I'd still have to find a way to mount that to the trailer. I don't plan to use suspension as I'm mainly building it to haul rocks. Maybe i could just use aluminum blocks and screw into those. Anyway, thanks for the input! |
