| 1/10 22' pontoon boat
well i was saving this as a winter project, but today i decided i was going to draw up a rough layout of what i wanted it to look like which took me a couple hours. i googled pontoon boat layouts and found a bunch that i liked from Avalon Pontoons so i went and took things i liked from several of their models and put them into my layout and i gotta say i like it and then i thought of what it would take to get it done before next spring for her maiden voyage and realized that i nned more than winter to complete it so im starting it now so have a cushion of time because i will be building the pontoon and the trailer. anyways heres a pic of my layout not drawn to scale though. the plan is to put the electronics under the seat in the back of the boat. I'm gonna keep an eye on this one! I've been wanting to build a pontoon boat but I haven't figured out how to make the pontoons themselves. What do you have planned?

I was thinking pvc but it would be too heavy now the plan is to use foam and shape it them use an epoxy to coat it.

Very interesting. A nice hunk of balsa or bass wood would work also. Can easily be sanded into shape. Just a thought. But very cool subscribing

Never thought of balsa might give that a try. As far as the panels for the rails I was thinking of using lexan but dont know where I can get sheets of it any ideas of where I can find some?

Pretty sure you can get sheets online. .040 thickness would be fine.

Oo ya. I subscribed. Love some off the wall boat building cant wait to see this come together. I found some waterproof epoxy tubes the other day made out od a thicker plastic. It was about a 1/16 scale though and this was the first thought that came to mind haha. I wanna build one too, but u was thinking of putting some smaller ones in my airboat. Anyway get to work. Thanks, ORK |

Yes hope everything goes well for you. This should be a sweet build when you get going again. I do know that Menard' s Depot and lowes all carry the Lexan sheets if it helps.

Damn dude, sorry to hear about your job. Hopefully things get better real quick for ya! I never thought about epoxy coating sanded balsa wood before. I'll have to keep that in mind. I'd love to tackle the project but I may have to move soon. |
