Default How to Make your Own Scale Decals

All you need is an InkJet colored Printer and a Good can of Clearcoat.

First find a good picture of what you are wanting to make into a Decal. I'll use the XJ grill and tail light I just made for an example.
Step 1: You will need to buy this and a can of Clear coat

Step 2: Find a picture that has a perfect angle you're looking for.

Step 3: Go into photoshop and remove everything but the Grill

Step 4: Scale to what size you need. You may need to print a couple of test decals on reguler paper to make sure you have the right size. Once you make sure you have that right. Put in the sticker paper. Print your decal and let it dry really good.

Step 5: When it dries. Spray a light coat of Clear coat on it. Let that dry. Cut out the decal and put it where you need it. The clear coat should keep the ink from washing off. At least for some time. You can always make another later.

It should look something like this when your done. Just repeat the same steps on other Decals. No more searching ot waiting for someone to make them for ya.

With this you can make Diamond plate panels, Door handles, hinges, Lights, Club Logo's, and etc.... Really the only thing stopping you to make anything is you.....So start making your own homemade decals...Have fun with it.

I would like to just add. This is not the same way I make them to sale. I have complete sign shop that I get to use for making those. This was just an idea I had and wanted to see if it would work. The ones I make to sale are made for out door use. And are top notch.

I have a suggestion, something I'm going to try ...

Get some XXX-Main Lexan Picture Glue and some kind of photo paper (not the sticker variety).

Print the labels exactly as r2j is suggesting (which I *hadn't* thought of, that's a damn good idea) on the photo paper ...

Add the glue and put it on the inside prior to painting. I'd haze the back with silver or white to be sure the color doesn't bleed through too much. Now you have internal decals; they should hold up longer and won't fade or get ripped.

Like a year ago I had done the same thing. I bought some sticker paper from wally world, and made them from that. I didn't have any clearcoat, so the ink kinda got smeared in the wet. I was thinking of just putting some of the clear packing tape ever the decal, then cut it out.

I did the same thing a while back on my chevy build (grille and chevrolet sticker on windshield) but i used a sticky label sheet. Is that stuff you used Clear? I made a logo for on my truck and it would be a major pain to cut it out on the label sheet i used.

what do ya'll think about a big piece of double sided tape. put decal on one side and cut it out and stick it on the inside of the body. this may allow for more intricate designs, you could cut inbetween text (like cut the inside of the 0 out) then paint over everything. does this sound reasonable? or not so much.

Give it a shot. Never hurts to try.
