Default DIY scale, rope, and line.

Well it's raining so I can't finish wiring the boat trailer, so I'm taking up a rainy day activity.

Let's lay some rope. Since we are working in scale, my guess if you reading this you like details.

So here's a fun fact what is the difference between rope and line? One you take a piece of rope and put it to a function it becomes line. For example take a piece of rope, place an eye in it then wind it on a winch and it becomes a winch line.

OK that's enough fun with flags. To make a tow line you will need the following:

One spool of synthetic fishing line. I'm using 12lb powerpro.
One spool or sewing thread if you want an accent color.
Four screw in hooks.
A thread pick for the knot.
Two tow hooks or shackles of you choosing.
A drill
And one piece of lumber. I have my work bench already set up to do rope up to twelve feet, but for this I'm going with a 2x4.

Let's set up our board. I'm going for a 30ft line, so I am going to start with 34 inches, I'll explain why later.
On one side of the board place one screw eye, make it centered. In the picture the eye is facing the wrong direction, I'll fix it later.

On the opposite place two more, a couple inches apart, but place them an equal distance from the centerline.

So the final set up should look like this.

Here is what should have happened. Transfer the strands on the paperclip, this one was so tight that I used the thread picker.

Next, while keeping this tight, in chuck the drill, grab the hook.

Bring the hook vertical and let it go. This will let the line relax and set it.

Now we have a nice tight lay. You can make three strand if you want. You can also make it left or right laid ripe if you are particular.
