So this all began much differently. I am in school for tool-making in Nebraska and this quarter we are required to design, build and run a mold of our own design. I originally wanted to do some c-hubs for the yeti xl. My plans were soon shot down due to the complexity of the mold and the time allotted. Soooo.... I picked something a bit more simple. Just a fun project I thought I'd share |

That will be a fun little mold to build. Do you have to have a slide and ejection in your mold design or just a core and cavity? |

Likely be doing four ejector pins at the base of the cone, I don't really have any undercuts so I won't be needing a slide. I hope i have enough time to finish this one, we have two other molds we need to make at the same time.

Waaaay back when I did my schooling our mold had to have ejection and a slide but we only had to do the one mold. Good luck and post up a pic of the cone when you finally shoot a part. |

I wish I had the time, my head is full of ideas, I didn't think Id enjoy this as much as I am. Much more rewarding hitting a .0002 tolerance by hand than programing a machine to do all the work.

I have a weak update unfortunately. I don't think I am going to have time to finish this mold during class this quarter. I had some rather epic mess-ups on the one of the assigned molds and I am nearing the end of the quarter. I still have a couple more quarters here, and i will be doing the night class the entire time fortunately. I can easily finish the mold in night class. I am going to talk to my teacher and see if I can run the mold machine during the night class, I might be able to, I think I am on his good side. And i clean better than anyone else in the shop. (Helps being 10 yrs older than the others) I really hope have more to update on here... |
