Hi-Lift Jack for an Orlandoo Jeep

I posted this in my OH Jeep thread, but I thought I'd pop it in here too. Like the title says, I made a Hi-lift jack for my little Yeep.



I used a piece of evergreen 2 mm I-beam for starters, then made the other parts from sheet styrene.



I tried to copy my 1/10th scale jack. To make it as functional as possible, I cut sewing pins for the pivots and N-gauge RR spikes for the "faux" ratchets.



I didn't even attempt to make working ratchet mechanisms, but the pins slide to make it adjustable, and it will support the little Jeep for a short time.



I still need to tear it down and paint it, when I decide what color.



Then I'll make mounts to hang it on the roof rack.



Then it should be ready for any LITTLE big adventure.

i got it painted yesterday. I didn't want any bright white shiners, so I shot it all flat black first.



Then I sprayed it with a couple thin coats of red. I re-assembled it and here we are today ....



I didn't want too bright of a red (trademarks and all that stuff ). Instead, I went with a brownish red like a used farm jack.



I didn't build in any slack, so the paint pretty well stuck the sliders to the rack .... and it's no longer functional. But, hey, it's just styrene (and leetle ) so it won't really hold up to much anyway. It should look pretty cool hangin' on the rack tho', as soon as I make some hangers.

I got some hangers made and welded (epoxied) to the rack today.



They work pretty well. I just used some thread to "rope" the jack in place, and to tie the handle.



Keeps it out of the way, but still handy enough.



Now it's ready for adventure .... okay, just a handful of adventure.

Thank you, Sir. Your work is an inspiration for me, so that means a lot. After watching you guys build such amazing stuff, I had to try it. I'm more used to scratch-buildin' from metal pieces, but, I'm pleased with my styrene progress, so far.

regardless of the paint making the jack non functional, that is pretty amazing to have created a fully functional hi lift.

Thanks all it takes is a little styrene and some time .... well, AND some magnifying glasses nowadays.
I actually got this little rig off of the shelf for a drive a couple weeks ago.
Still amazes me every time I drive the itty-bitty thang!
