Re: Scale Oregon Trail’R Terradrop Alpha Off-Road Teardrop Trailer Why thank you. I put in many years at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft, Wizardry and Trailer Building. Really though, I have no idea as to what I'm doing. I just make it up as I go along. Prototype #3 is already in the planning stages. Cheers eh, Todd |
Re: Scale Oregon Trail’R Terradrop Alpha Off-Road Teardrop Trailer Checking out a 3D printed fender and some wheels. Chassis is in the design stage. Looking to 3D print it as well at the moment. If that doesn't work then it'll be brass most likely. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4569-67297.jpg |

Re: Scale Oregon Trail’R Terradrop Alpha Off-Road Teardrop Trailer Well, had a bit of time and made a door kit today. Two actually. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4569-67324.jpg Bit of plywood, Acrylic, Polybak and a sticker all fit together like so. I love the close tolerances. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4569-67325.jpg It'll look something like this. But with hinges, which are lost in the mess of the bench. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4569-67326.jpg I also cut a chassis out of 6mm plywood and painted it black. I may still 3D print it or make it out of brass. This was quicker and easier though. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4569-67327.jpg Tried the front box. It'll look better when it's glued on. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4569-67328.jpg Here's the bottom view. Needs a couple of more screws at the back. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4569-67329.jpg Also added a couple of pieces of veneer to the top shelf of the galley to cover up the joints. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4569-67330.jpg Axles and leaf springs are up next. Cheers eh, Todd |
Re: Scale Oregon Trail’R Terradrop Alpha Off-Road Teardrop Trailer Wat a work of art tossed! That trailer is turnin out beautiful. So much detail. Sent from my SM-J327VPP using Tapatalk |

Re: Scale Oregon Trail’R Terradrop Alpha Off-Road Teardrop Trailer Hey, just kidding, don't worry about it, I've got some ideas. |
Re: Scale Oregon Trail’R Terradrop Alpha Off-Road Teardrop Trailer Ive got a few ideas for handles myself lol. The bed im using for my winter build is a utility/flat bed. Goina try n make some boxes for under side infront of the rear tires. Sent from my SM-J327VPP using Tapatalk |
Re: Scale Oregon Trail’R Terradrop Alpha Off-Road Teardrop Trailer A bit of Tamiya Smoke PS-31 and I have tinted windows. Here they are mocked up. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4569-67340.jpg |
Re: Scale Oregon Trail’R Terradrop Alpha Off-Road Teardrop Trailer And now the wait is on. Need M1 X 8 bolts and nuts for the hinges. Hurry up mailman! |
Re: Scale Oregon Trail’R Terradrop Alpha Off-Road Teardrop Trailer While waiting for the tiny door hardware I decided to recut the chassis. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4569-67385.jpg Here's V2 but the holes for mounting the suspension are too big. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4569-67383.jpg So, on to V3, smaller holes, still bigger than they need to be though but they'll do for now. Trimmed the chassis up a bit to match the shape of the suspension brackets. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4569-67384.jpg I 3D printed the suspension. It's not going to last as all I had was PLA but I'll redo it using PTEG most likely. I modified the suspension that Ossum posted to Thingiverse for his M416 Trailer. Basically just made it wider.. We'll see how that goes. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4569-67386.jpg http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4569-67387.jpg http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4569-67388.jpg http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4569-67389.jpg A view underneath. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4569-67390.jpg Didn't have any threaded rod for the axle but a bamboo skewer will work for now. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4569-67391.jpg The fender is also from Ossum's trailer. Need to redo the galley hatch as it's not quite square. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4569-67392.jpg |
Re: Scale Oregon Trail’R Terradrop Alpha Off-Road Teardrop Trailer Dang, that looks great tossed! Comin together nicely. The detail is amazing. Keep up the good work Sent from my SM-J327VPP using Tapatalk |

Re: Scale Oregon Trail’R Terradrop Alpha Off-Road Teardrop Trailer Busy week so I didn't get too much done. I narrowed the fenders by 10mm and reprinted them. Prototyped a side using white mat board (it cuts so nicely on the laser) to get the bolt holes for the fender in the right place. Looks a little better with the narrower fenders I think. I'll recut the sides with bolt holes for the fenders in V3. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4569-67406.jpg http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4569-67407.jpg http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4569-67408.jpg |
Re: Scale Oregon Trail’R Terradrop Alpha Off-Road Teardrop Trailer This is definitely a need now!! Wish it would be mass produced!!! |
Re: Scale Oregon Trail’R Terradrop Alpha Off-Road Teardrop Trailer Thanks. Yeah, mass production ain’t going to happen. A one off I think, or maybe 2 if my son keeps after me. |
Re: Scale Oregon Trail’R Terradrop Alpha Off-Road Teardrop Trailer Still waiting on the 1mm hardware for the hinges. Got the nuts but no bolts. I printed some new fenders that are more in the style of the TerraDrop Alpha. Here they are right out of the 3D printer. A bit of cleanup and some sanding and paint and I think I've got it. Spent some more time redesigning a few little bits for V3. Hope to cut it this week. It will also have pre-cut holes for the fenders. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4569-67464.jpg |
Re: Scale Oregon Trail’R Terradrop Alpha Off-Road Teardrop Trailer WOW......just WOW."thumbsup" |
Re: Scale Oregon Trail’R Terradrop Alpha Off-Road Teardrop Trailer Thanks Bill. I’m working on another prototype. Just small refinements like laser cutting the screw holes for the doors. I’ve 3D printed a sink but it still needs to be refined. Should have some more pics up this weekend. |
Re: Scale Oregon Trail’R Terradrop Alpha Off-Road Teardrop Trailer Finally got around to trying out the hinges on the door. What a pain in the ass. Putting tiny nuts on blindly on the inside of the trailer was a test. Finally got it done though and here is the final result. Going to make some sort of a magnetic latch to hold it shut and have to come up with some door handles. I may have a few kicking around. Somewhere... http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...569-67792.jpeg http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...569-67793.jpeg http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...569-67794.jpeg |
Re: Scale Oregon Trail’R Terradrop Alpha Off-Road Teardrop Trailer Well, since my whole working life just turned itself upside down and I find myself teaching online rather than in a room full of teenagers, I haven't spent much time playing or building. I did design a little magnetic latch to hold the doors shut. It's 1.5mm plywood with a 3mm magnet in the hole. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...569-67805.jpeg Here it is glued inside the door. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...569-67806.jpeg I glued another magnet to the door. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...569-67807.jpeg And here's a view of the inside. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...569-67808.jpeg Just enough stick to keep the door shut. Now where the heck are those door handles? |
Re: Scale Oregon Trail’R Terradrop Alpha Off-Road Teardrop Trailer Bit more done on the trailer this week. Painted it with Grey Plastidip. Bolted on the new fenders. Still need to get a real axle and find those f^%$#n door handles. Also working out proper hinges for the galley. One day I'll finish this thing. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...569-67928.jpeg http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...569-67929.jpeg http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...569-67930.jpeg |
Re: Scale Oregon Trail’R Terradrop Alpha Off-Road Teardrop Trailer Dude! This is too cool. Great job. "thumbsup" |
