Default Scale Oregon Trail’R Terradrop Alpha Off-Road Teardrop Trailer

Not sure how I got to looking at teardrop trailers but my web wanderings led me to the Oregon Trailer site and I was quite taken with the off-road Terra Drop Alpha. I don’t want a real one but I thought it might make a cool model to tow about. Here it is:

Here’s the kitchen.

They’re basically made of plywood on a steel frame so I got to cutting out some trailer shapes out of 3mm plywood ‘cause that’s what I had.

Started gluing bits together and it began to look trailerish.

Glued some styrene sheet onto the top and added a bit of a kitchen.

Then I made a hatch for the galley but it was a mm too wide and 6mm too short. It didn’t fit.

So back to the drawing board. Made a new one, a bit narrower and a tad longer, and it fits like a hatch!

And a bit of Polybak cut to cover the side.

Stay tuned. More to come.

Very cool choice, excellent execution as per usual, Tossed Man. There are some pretty cool compact campers out there these days. That is definitely one of them. I am more of a back-country, canoe-camping kind of guy so that kind of thing doesn’t suit my needs. Strangely I still want one

Thanks Jato and Smog. I’d buy one but they run about $30K fully kitted out and the bed isn’t long enough for me. Thus, the model.

Wow! When I first saw the pics, I was going to ask where you bought this kit.

Great job on designing and cutting the pieces out!

Excited to follow along and see how it turns out!

Got a bit more done today. Glued a styrene skin on the hatch cover. Just gotta let it dry now.

And then I'm going to try to glue this onto the skin of the hatch.

This is what I'm trying to recreate.

Thanks 72square. Thanks Indybama. Most kits have the parts measured out properly though. I'm flying by the seat of my pants here and have had to re-cut multiple parts. Like the skin for the hatch which I glued on upside down. D'oh! I'll get it right eventually.

Thanks Jim! Pants pilot eh? I'll have to add that one to my résumé.

Cheers,

Todd

Here's round two of skinning the hatch. I'm trying Polybak this time instead of styrene. I need to glue it three times because of the curves on the hatch. Never used so many clamps for such a small thing.

Got a bit more done. Glued on the first layer of the hatch skin. Also got the front box framed out. Stay tuned. More to come.

Thanks Indy! I hope so. It's slowly coming along. Gotta figure out the doors next and am thinking about how to make the frame and axles.

Well, it's back to the drawing board for the main body. The hatch is perfect, as is the front box. Need to redesign the placement of the cross beams on the main body. Need to add some more and fine tune the placement of a few. Also, need to make the inner cabinets a bit shorter.
