Default Thoughts on a Winch

I was at my local hobby store this past weekend buying a set of new 1.9 wheels and spied a Warn winch and remote from RC4WD and immediately started lusting after it. Can anyone here who has one of these setups give me their thoughts on how well they worked, fit and finish on the installation and if they thought it was all worth it.

Thanks!
John

They work really well if you pair it with a decent winch controller. Do not get the RC4WD winch controller. They are not waterproof and are very under powered. I pair mine with HW1060's if you want to run it off your controller. If you want to use a wireless one that uses a seperate remote there are several companies out there that make decent winch controllers.

Wenches are nice to have around, sometimes. But they can be a pain in the ass always doing their nails, watching tv, never helping around the house. LOL

Oh oh, you meant WINCH. my bad.

I like the look of them on the bumper, but for me they are a waste of money. Unless I’m shooting a realistic video, I’m not spending the time to get the winch out, find a spot to hook it and putting it back in when I can easily just pick it up! Not saying it’s useless to everyone, because it definitely has its place, just not with me. I actually bought one off of Amazon and I barely used it, and when I did, it was a PIA.

I’ve got a rc4wd 9.5 warn. Ran it on an esc and on a winch controller on my D90. Its ok power wise. Looks good. I feel that I spent too much on the RC4WD packaging for it. The ‘clones’ seems to perform exactly the same for a third of the price.

I have since replaced it with a z10 clone on the same silly controller and it pulls much better than the 9.5, which it should with the dual motors.

Hardly ever use them on the trail though. Its just a nice to have.

I understand that the RC4WD 8274 is a beast though... but at that price its an expensive scale accessory.
