Default My little tagalong camper *56K Beware lot of pics*

Well i have been working on this for a while and finally finished it up yesterday. I wanted to do something I had not seen done before and this came about by accident. I was searching on eBay for decals and saw an ad for "1/12 scale Caravan with decals". I thought I had never heard of a Dodge Caravan body, so naturally I had to check it out. Imagine my surprise when I saw it was a Camper. I knew the British called campers caravans, but I never expected it to be one. Naturally i had to have it, so I bought it and waited patiently for it to cross the ocean. Once it arrived and I unboxed it I started taking measurements to see how much I would have to stretch it to make it 1/10th scale. (see the first pic for the size diff compared to my scaler.) It is made from abs plastic so modifying with plastic card was a snap. I made a frame for it the size I wanted the camper and then stretched the body to fit. after I got the body the size I wanted I cut holes for the windows and started the body putty process. After getting it smoothed out and painted I started on the roof rack. I finished it up and started adding a few scale items. My wife made the sleeping bags up for me and talked my into adding the "tuber" to the roof, since I always take an RC truck with me when I go camping. Then I added some curtains to the windows and made a hitch to fit the receiver on my truck and it was good to go. Thanks for looking. Criticisms and comments appreciated.

I think most campers like curtains in the windows for a little privacy I would assume.

Nice work man. The only thing that I would suggest is maybe jack up the ride height a little bit. It looks to be a little on the low side IMHO. Great work none-the-less.

Exactly. Nothing worse than waking up to a bear watching you sleep, trust me on this.

thank you. It is higher than it looks in the pics. My grass is a little high right now, my lawn mower is on the fritz. I am waiting on the parts to come in so the grass is running rampant. It sits about 1.25" off the ground.

I love it. Great idea. I really dig the funky curtains.

Now you just need something to get her a rockin'

I agree the curtains are typical camper curtains (aka ugly arse sheets you wouldn't let in your house). Does it smell funky like most campers?

Gotta love your blackfoot too!

Very nice!!! A lot of detail, but why you don't use the same tires?

lol I think all campers, even new ones come with the funky smell from the factory.

Thanks. The Blackfoot (Sammy) is my favorite rig right now. I took him out yesterday for it's first serious trail run and was quite pleased with it. Even my wife had fun playing in the mud with him.

Because I only had one Moab left after building Sammy. lol Seriously though, it was because I didn't think it would look right with that much side wall. So I got those buggy tires off of rcnut38 and put them on a pair of narrowed King Cab wheels.
