2014 scale rules discussion or question thead

Please ask any questions here for 2014 SORRCA Scale Rules.
Thanks!

Great job clarifying and expanding the definitions"thumbsup"

Question for you guys. Here is the statement in the rules.

A self-recovery penalty will be assessed every time the vehicles winch cable is connected/reconnected, or self-recovery tools are positioned/repositioned. If at any time during the process of removing recovery tools and/or winch line from vehicle, the vehicle is moved by any force other than it's winch or its own power, a touch penalty will be assessed and the vehicle repositioned to the last cleared gate (see vehicle touch rule).
All self-recovery tools (sand ladders, etc.) must be carried on the vehicle.

Seems like sand ladders have been added along with "etc". At the comp this weekend we were talking about the changes and the above change came up.

Would a fella be allowed to pull their spare tire off and use it to fill a gap or ease the incline level of a ledge or etc....as long as it was reinstalled just like the rest of the recovery tools.

Looks to fall under "etc" fairly easy.

Thanks for any insight you have.

That's a really interesting question! I don't see why you couldn't use a spare to fill a gap. As long as you are carrying something on your rig, you can use it for whatever you want.

I was curious, I'm currently rebuilding a rig to be g6 and class2 competitive.
Now, I was thinking of installing a dig unit and possibly rear steer since these are useable in g6 competitions. I know these aren't usable in class 2, but is it possible as long as all other requirements are met, to "lock out" these items be it unplugging the servos from the receiver, or physically locking out the linkage.

Thanks Tim, I will pass the info on.

You can have them on a Class 2 rig but if you use either of them it would be an instant DQ for that course. Just make sure you know what competition you're in and you should be fine, or better yet physically lock them out.

Thanks Tim, plan is just to have a couple solid tabs to bolt linkage to and lock em out.
Appreciate the reponse sir.

About self recovery points.

How much penalty do I recieve for the following?

Winching of a tree using a tree saver and a shackle while using two sand ladders to bridge a gap.

Winching +3, tree saver +3, shackle +3, sand ladders +3 per pair or +3 each? 12 or 15 points or am I not getting this.

My Guess would be winch (+3)and sandladders(+3) for a total of +6. Sandladders are a pair so no double penalty for using both. The other items are part of the winching process, they are accesories just like the winch hook. No different than having a pullpal attached to the end of your winch line

Devlin is correct, but I can give you all those penalties if you really want :lmao:

Hi guys!

For tire sizes for Class II the rules state that the maximum tire size is 4.75" or 120 mm.

But 4.75" is actually 120,65 mm, which when rounded is actually 121 mm.

This is a pretty significant problem, because for example the PL Super Swamper XL tires are (as per the manufacturer specs) 4.75" or 121 mm. See the Specs tab here

Since we'll be using the same rules here in Finland for this season, it would be a lot less confusing for us (since we don't use the legacy measuring system) if it'd be possible for you to update the rules on this part.

Thanks!

We are looking into the correction. Thanks for finding it, it shouldn't be any issue to fix."thumbsup"

In class 1 it states that your rail chassis must be as long as your wheelbase, but in class 2 it must be 3" longer than your wheelbase. What are the reasons for this difference?

If you look at the rules for class 1 it says that the tires cannot extend farther than the bumpers or bed, with class 2 we wanted people to be able to build more performance oriented rigs so we settled on 3".

Re: 2014 scale rules discussion or question thead

C1 requires bumpers and states your tires cannot stick out past them so chassis length isnt as important

Edit: Piggy is a faster pecker than me:lmao:

I like the clarification of custom hard body! Good work guys.. I think the touch/ movement while winching rule is going to be tough for everybody.. There is going to be a lot more touch / roll over penalties this year

I see this was also in effect last year but our local clubs never inforced it ... My bad

i had a question i've been wondering about and since i'm about to start a C3 build, now's the time to ask..

i'm planning a tuber build with body panels from a hacked up hilux. my question is, if i drop the tubework into a bed formation in between the rear bed panels, would i get drop bed points? also would it need some type of floor decking?

as far as i knew drivers are allowed to stabilize the vehicle while setting up recovery gear. i think its referring to situations like if a rig is on its lid and you move it in any way to pull out your winch line. i know a lot of us would have this problem because we run our line over the cab to a hook near the bed.

maybe i'm wrong?!
