| class 3 tire question
Can I take a 2.2 swamper xl and cut it down to legal size. Rather than modding a regular swamper to make it taller. Thanks |

As the rules sit now, this is your problem as the rules are written: Quote:

It is a scale tire, so I could deff see the request to add or change a line in the rules to cover Cut N Shuts. | ||

I see a rewording needed cause some techs may say that all pieces used must come from a "legal" tire. The xl is considered illegal to most cause of the mfg spec size. If any of that makes sense, it did in my head

I want to be 100% legal guys. That is why I am posting this. My thoughts are I don't want to Frankenstein a nice set of swampers to add a little height. It would look much better to just cut and shut an xl. I mean if I have to expand tires and glue in sidewalls it's just not worth it. And with me doing it it would look like crap. LOL it's not like it's a performance gain as an any serious comp crawler knows a 6" tire is not an all that. But there is a coolness about a larger tire (to spec) in the scale world. So anyways this is why I asked. Thanks |

Looks like the tread is different only in scale. Both have 28 lugs around them. So the larger tire is wider with larger gaps and treads. Tom, the guys you run with will let you run an 8" dunkin donut for a tire from what I have seen. Build it and run it.

* Class-3 Modified: Tire modifications are permitted, as long as the tire is no larger than 5.75" in diameter measured off the vehicle laying on its side, and all tire parts are from a legal scale tire.* I have thought about this a bunch today and the part in yellow dashes any hope of cutting down a Swamper XL since they start life as an illegal tire. You're only hope of using a Swamper is to enlarge one of the old ones. Sorry. |

This is stupid. The fact that this tire isn't legal is just nuts.

| Re: class 3 tire question Let Pro-Line know. It's all on them. These rules have been in place for years and manufacturers need to understand that we can't change the rules every time an out of spec product comes out. I think it sucks too but just like my own kids, you gotta let them fail and get hurt a few times before they learn certain lessons |

So as the rules read all people have to do is convince proline to advertise the size smaller even though it might physically measure larger?

At this point, I am pretty sure if you do that the rules will get changed and anyone that runs a Tech table will hate you and Proline. Majority of the reason the rule is written the way it is, is to save on time and yet another thing to look at during Tech. Once you know which tires fit where, it is a glance and your on to looking at other things. And when you are looking at 150 rigs, within 30min to an hour - We don't need to make it harder. |
