Are there updated 2017 scale point tally sheets posted anywhere yet? We definitely need those asap.
See posts 37,38 and answer 44
A normal production white abs vacuumed body which starts as 060 sheet will not meet the overall finished product required thickness due to material stretching.
We have had the same question in our local forum too
Cheers

Hi guy.

is it legal?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ax_z4QpFvo

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzvzRvctHoI

the caliper brake like real one is bolt at the axle.

this is one of the Championship Award 2016 (Liguria's sorrca championship)
(Consegna premi campionato S.O.R.R.C.A. Liguria 2016 - Scalers & Crawlers)

can our pilots mount legal this in 2017?

thks for your great work!

The disc brake rotors would be fine, but under the current rules you could not use the calipers that mount to the knuckle.

So basically wraith knucles are illegal because the steering arm is bolted to the knuckle and it has weight.

Nice.

if those things were legal, i guarantee people would start making 'scale' brass caliper mounts that weigh 2oz on each end.

So basically no, a steering arm isn't illegal since a knuckle is worthless without the arm. A steering arm isn't weight, it's an essential part of the knuckle. Please don't try and cause trouble.

But rotors and calipers are an essential part of making an rc vehicle appear more scale.

Why do the rules limit the width of a spare tyre? Diameter I understand but why width?

Maybe the spare could be scored like this:

-1 if there is more than 1/4" difference to the drive tyres
-2 if the difference is 1/4" or less
-3 if the spare tyre is the same as the drive tyres

They are not an essential part of making them scale, they are a seldom seen extreme detail. The rotors are fine, but people will take advantage of the calipers if we allow it. Unfortunate, but it's a rule.

So people don't make a super lightweight 1/2" wide spare that looks stupid.

Maybe the spare could be scored like this:

-1 if there is more than 1/4" difference to the drive tyres
-2 if the difference is 1/4" or less
-3 if the spare tyre is the same as the drive tyres
I'm pretty sure we have the spare tire specs figured out, but thanks.

As long as it is 1/8" material or plate and it's mounted to protect the body then it will gets points.

So I take it when the rules say a "human" figure they mean a lifelike human, no skeletons, monsters, Freddie Krugers, nothing other than a plan Jane (or john)person?

trail ranger body to be specific. conceptually speaking you could pop the lexan off the body once you got the styrene panels all glued up, but it would be nice to keep the lexan for added rigidity and areas that are glass or where you want the appearance of seperate body panel detail.

Tin foil coated lexan body for the win. Obviously just a little teasing, but it does go to illustrate how easy you can get around things but maintain the letter of the law(rules)

i was asking just because i was brainstorming on how to get to a hardbody out of a lexan body i think is cool. it didnt take long to realize it would be harder to strip styrene onto a body than it would be to just make one based off the lexan measurements.

First tumble or rock scrape and you'd be out of spec.
Not sure about genius.

You can draw styrene just as easy as lexan. On top of that there are so many other thermo plastics that could be used, which have various properties to pick from, if you really wanted to do this you could.

Depending on the adhesive used it wont do more then scratch it. Besides that who is to say you don't just put the foil on the inside. If you are going to bend them then bend them to the best advantage, right?

You could go even further and simple hydro form baking tin over a mold, then glue it to the lexan.

The point of mentioning it is that unless there is a "formula spec" there are always ways around rules.

Back in the day we ran hard body slot cars, then resin bodies where allowed, then someone got the bright idea to add micro balloons to the resin. The there where fragile bodies that weighed a fraction of the stock bodies. Eventually everyone ran the same dam body, that would crumble in your hand if you weren't careful.

For the record I could never drive well enough to gain any advantage trying any of that, and wouldn't bother. Id rather do some modeling and do up a nice store bought hardbody.

On that note, would a fiberglass body be allowable? I could see using the inside of a lexan body as a mold for a hardbody not available. I have some kevlar and carbon fiber mat laying around, in need of a project.
