Default JCAD Scale Tech Disk Brake Hub Spacers

Another item fresh out of the JCAD labs:

Disk Brake Hub Spacers

These spacers are designed to give your rig that extra scale touch, as well as space out your wheels to customize your offset.
  • Lightweight - Only about 3 grams each!
  • Adds scale points for SORCCA sanctioned competitions
  • Available in multiple thicknesses from 2mm - 9mm
  • 35mm diameter rotor fits most 1.9 and 2.2 wheels (smaller or larger diameter available)
  • Vented, Cross-Drilled or smooth options available
  • Fits any SLW hub wheel (other bolt pattern hubs available by special request)
  • Directional pattern (Left and right side versions)
  • Made from Alumide (Grey nylon plastic with a subtle metallic sparkle and matte-polished sheen.)

As you may see from the above information, these are extremely easy to customize. Lets say you wanted small rotors for the rear, with smooth faces and only 2mm spacing, and standard rotors for the front, with cross-drilled and vented faces, and 6mm spacing... you can have it!

Turn-around time for these is around 3-4 weeks or so (due to shapeways' turn around time). After the first batch or two, I will carry a variety of these options in stock, to help reduce that wait time. Special order options will usually see around 3-4 weeks turn-around time.

Hardware is not included, but keep in mind the extra thickness will usually require longer screws to ensure the hub is secure to the wheel.

Feel free to ask any questions or post comments in the posts below.

To pre-order these, simply click the link below and it will add the item to your paypal cart. Shipping through USPS first class (with tracking number) is included to any US address, international will be more, please send me a PM for a quote on shipping.

What about issues of brittleness? Alumide has a tendency to crack and break because it is brittle, have you had any issues with this when mounting these? I know my hubs need to be pretty tight so I don't wear the hub and 12mm nut and want to be sure these will hold up before I order them.

I've got the initial versions on order, and I will report back on that as soon as it's in. I was going with alumide for the silver color, but if they don't hold up, I might look at other materials. I'm going to order some silver ABS to print those in house, but they wouldn't have the smooth finish the polished alumide would have.
From what I've seen, it shouldn't be a problem. These would only be spacers in between the wheel face and the existing hub you have, so they would not affect the wheel hex or the wheel nut. The hub screws would go through the spacer into the hub, and you don't need those screws to be cranked down (use locktite, and get them firmly seated.) so really the only issue I see is if something got into the wheel and got stuck on the brake face.

Thanks for the info, and I didn't mean to sound like the hub bolts needed super torqued. I was just thinking the force of the pinching may cause issues if it's not a completely 100% smooth mating, contact area. The standard PLA should hold up no problems but as you stated you wouldn't get the finish desired to look like actual rotors.

Either way I am looking forward to the update once you receive the samples.

Very cool. I was looking at my buggy today, thinking I needed some rotors behind my KMCs.

And then I read this! Great product.

Will you be able to make a version to fit the gear head 1.9 bolt pattern? These look sweet.

I would just need to get my hands on a set, but that could be done I think.

Don't forget, you need to post a pic in the giveaway thread in order to enter.

Great idea on these! Will they work with Mayhem hubs?

I'm not sure what the bolt pattern is on the Mayhem hubs, but, if they are different than the SLW pattern, I would need either some good dimensions or a wheel in hand to take measurements. Would be pretty easy to modify the file for practically any bolt pattern out there.

Just finished the giveaway on these. I hope to hear back from the winners about their experience with the brakes.

Here's a better pic:

Very soon. I am trying to get everything ready so that I have enough inventory to support the upcoming launch of the YETI, as well as cover everyone else. I will probably start a pre-order soon, and will post it to this thread when that is ready to go.

Pre-order is now available for these. (Information in first post)

Keep in mind the pricing is for each pair and is based on Shapeways' updated pricing. They are priced per pair so you can customize which spacers you want for each pair.
For example; you can order Cross Drilled + Vented 5mm for the front axle and Vented 2mm for the rear, or get a variety of widths to customize your vehicle.

Any questions, please feel free to ask.

Unfortunately, not likely. The design puts the disk right against the back of the wheel, not leaving enough room for calipers. Also, there are so many different knuckles to account for, making adapters for all of them would be tough. Lastly, there are many different hub-spacer combinations so they would all be different distances from the knuckles. It's not an easy thing to design for.

If anything comes around it would likely be for a specific knuckle, with a specific width and spacer, but this is low on my priority list to be honest.
