I can opt for my homemade balsa surfboard with a salvaged part from the pro-line CGR kit.


Or opt for a spare rim and tire.


Now for the inside...let's start with removing the body. I decided to keep the body mounting pins hidden.

Front body mounting is achieved by drilling two holes on the front grill


It's held in place by aluminum tubes on bumper & homemade pin system.




The rear of the body is sandwiched between a plywood bumper mount & Pro-line's rear bumper.
This is secure with body pins on the inside of the truck.

Now let's remove Bronco body...

The winch is powered by a 9 volt battery.
Take notice of the power toggle switch to the left of the battery.
I installed it to prevent battery drain when the winch is not in use.



The mp3 player & stereo speaker system is housed in a speakerbox/rear cab combo made from balsa wood.
The fuel tubing is used to give the Bronco a snug fit when mounted.
The truck bed is made of balsa wood.





Side-mounted Novak (non-water protected) ESC
HPI bronco body with the rear cut out; snugly attached to the balsa wood rear cab/stereo housing.

Now to let you guys in on a little secret, this was a restoration project. This is my original Ax-10 scorpion in its third rebuild rendition. It's gone through tranny & axle gear upgrades, lower and upper link-length changes, much shock/suspension changes, a winch change, and both front and rear servo replacement.

Although each rendition looks like a shelf queen I can truthfully say they are not. They get beat on quite nicely hence the second and third rendition.

Thanks, the bronco is one of my favorite bodies for a crawler. Oh and yes, it was cold out with 20 inches of snow. I had 3 sticks packs & new AA's for what i thought was going to be some good amount of driving. Add the cost of bribing my wife with a Sephora makeup kit so she would video my truck.

That was an expensive 10 minutes of fun. (I should have waterproofed the ESC)

Thanks, glad you liked the other renditions, all i have of them are the photos.
By the way the grey bronco you referred to at the bottom is just a black & white photo of the color version from the top of the page, lol. I guess it will be a good idea to use the color version at the bottom.

Thanks, this build or rebuild i should say has been going for 2 months. I keep making small changes here an there. The tire rack add-on was as recent as 3 days ago. I had saved a leftover piece from a previous CGR kit that was tossed. While organizing I came across it and a lightbulb went on in my head. A set of firm Axial springs replaced the Losi springs the day after I ran the truck in the snow. The next change is to add a Tamiya's wild willy and open up the driver side window.

Now it's time to start thinking about a 2011 project. My wife (she's a trooper) just picked me up a new bright jeep for $39 bucks; a special at Radioshack. Oh, and yes it cost me a another makeup set.

Was at staples with the wife today when i happened to come across this little self powered $10 MP3 speaker. I grabbed two of them. I tried them out on my Bronco and WOW did it make a difference from the last speaker that was on.

Of course the increased voltage gives it increased punch but the quality of the sound is increased because the new little speaker expands like an accordion to give it some bass. Something my previous setup was seriously lacking, which why it sounded like a transistor radio.

Although now i have to fabricate a round speaker holder to accommodate the new shape, this is something i would have no issues with since the sound output and clarity is now up to par with the looks of the truck.

Looks Good! Crawls Good! SOUNDS GOOD!!!

This is the speaker size in a closed position in the bed of the truck.


This is the speaker in the expanded position. See the green accordion? In this position the sound range widens and the music sounds richer.

Here's a little demo recorded with my SD1300 point and shoot. The speaker is hidden under the spare tire but not attached yet. You can see the blue light under the tire. Im going to start brainstorming a way to mount it and make it look good. It sounds some much better in person!!!

Addendum:

Got to brainstorming...if this little single speaker kicks butt, then what would two do?.....

KICK BUTT 2 TIMES!!!

So I pulled out the styrene, bonding agent and my old soldering iron.

First I soldered each speaker wire(2 of them) to a single headphone jack and made sure it worked.



Then I got started on the styrene speaker mount...




Then the front panel...




Then cut some brown felt, cut some holes and sprayed it with 3m adhesive, waited till it got tacky and laid it on smoothly.













They are now looking & sounding mighty sweet!!!

What luck they were Axial Green in color.


01/27/2011 HAHAHAHAH WE GOT SNOW AGAIN!!!!

I got my chains ready (ok only had enough chain for three tires but a quick trip to hardware store will fix that)

ADDENDUM: 1/29/2011

Had to redo my chain count due to clearance issues. Where as before i had 15 links on the inner and outer links, I changed count to 18 and added an additional set across for a total of 6 sets of cross links (6 sets/4 links each).

The jingling sounds really cool.






Now i have proper clearance


Oh and i had to use some felt on the truck's bed to make it uniform with the speakers.

Also couldn't forget the spare...


Spare gets a set of the 5 cross link set of chains.

What's next on the agenda? I plan on opening up the driver side window just so you can see the wild willy driver i have ready to paint & glue in my drawer.

My original Black Betty turned Bronco was decommissioned after a final trip to Bear Mountain during Beer festival Stay Thirsty my Friends! XX (i couldn't resist, lol)

The parts were cleaned, freshened and used on project SCX10 Short wheel base Bronco.
