PTO Winch with Slipper Clutch Couple years ago I fabbed up a Delrin PTO winch with TLT gears. It was driven off of a seperate MRC trans, so I caught some flak for it. Fast forward two years. My Jeepster build has been on my bench for a year and is about 80% right now. Rig weighs approx 9lbs in current state. <iframe width="853" height="480" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/5iBs_d7-ca4?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Applying about another 15+lbs of downforce (thumb on stinger) causes the slipper to kick in. <iframe width="853" height="480" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/hkQOOyXsXUg?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Top view of R2D2 linkage and three positions. Allows Drive/Drive+winch/Winch. <iframe width="853" height="480" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/b-fhEaRuGJU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Re: PTO Winch with Slipper Clutch This is part of my current Jeepster build, but not sure how much it was seen there. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/1-9-s...o-c-101-a.html http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/p...pscf2fc2d6.jpg http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/p...psae7dd3f2.jpg http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps60917901.jpg |
Re: PTO Winch with Slipper Clutch Pretty cool stuff... I've often stared at the unused front outdrive on my 1/6th Jeep's Axial transmission (the back outdrive powers the transfer case) and thought about what it would take to turn it into a useable PTO. You're disconnecting it with some sort of dig-style arrangement? |

Re: PTO Winch with Slipper Clutch Nice!! |
Re: PTO Winch with Slipper Clutch Thanks Mike! I added the video that shows the three positions and linkage on the trans. Just hope the gears hold up! |
Re: PTO Winch with Slipper Clutch amazing idea!!!! sign me up for one."thumbsup" |
Re: PTO Winch with Slipper Clutch this is really cool man, good work,, |
Re: PTO Winch with Slipper Clutch Very cool arrangement. I've been pondering over a PTO winch design for a few years. ;) |
Thanks for all the comments!! It's a little chunky. Would like to have it going on a build where the front bumper was very broad very thick. Could have gotten it smaller without the slipper. It's a Holmes hobbies 10 pole mini out runner driving it and the rig. I wonder what the slipper will do when it gets wet. Wanted it on there though so no one loses a finger. |
Re: PTO Winch with Slipper Clutch Perhaps a ramped-key style slipper would be better? Like they have in kids toys where a spring forces both sides together, but when it slips it makes a huge click or clunk noise as the teeth slide over each other. You may be able to make it smaller in alloy or delrin. |
